WCLO's Steve Benton reports on Janesville firefighters efforts to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association

RSS

— The "Fill the Boot" campaign for the Muscular Dystrophy Association gets underway in Janesville Thursday.

The goal for Janesville firefighters for the three day effort is $8,000 according to Firefighter / Paramedic, Mary Bouton. Bouton says this is the first year Janesville firefighters have been approved to participate in the fund raiser. She says some of the other firefighters in the state collect money by approaching cars at intersections. Since there is an ordinance against stopping traffic in Janeville, city officials have denied past efforts to take part in the campaign. By setting up the collection points in parking lots, firefighters were given the "thumbs up" in Janesville this year.

The Janesville collections will take place Thursday through Saturday at the Pontiac Convention Center, Pick'n Save at 1717 Center Avenue and Big Lots at 1714 Milton Avenue. You can drop off donations between 3-6 pm Thursday and Friday and from 9-12 on Saturday.

Last year, firefighters in Wisconsin collected over $339,000 for MDA.
