California has a huge budget shortfall, and it is estimated that 1.4 Billion dollars would be added to the economy annually, and thats just selling/taxing Marijuana itself. People are brought up to think "pot is bad" with no real concrete reason besides biased information and informants. My doctor didnt cover all that when I asked about lung risk. He told me that what I use is not a risk, and about the saliva/mucus thing. He is also always encouraging me to use more cannabis and try to completely stop using any prescription narcotics.

Your saliva is either ingested or spit...
And your lungs are constantly trying to move mucus up (i.e. hacking , then spitting) but a deep inhale will bring the tar deep into your lungs then to your alveoli. There is ~75 square meters of surface area in the alveoli.

Capillaries line the surface and allow oxygen in and CO2 out. The tar will either pass through or stay in the alveoli. If it passes through it will first go by vital organs. If it can pass through the alveoli capillaries it can then pass through to the organ. It will build up over time. (long term effects). If it cannot pass through,where does it go? Most likely it will stay in the alveoli and ultimately it will become useless. Don't worry though there a ~75 sq meters of surface area among the alveolus, which are less than a half of millimeter in diameter, it will take an awful lot of clogged alveoli before your breathing is disrupted (3 joints a day 365 days a year 30 years...~32000 joints some where between a third and a half of million "hits") (long term effects).

I very rarely ever get sick at all. I cant remember any significant repiratory illnesses since using pot, but I almost croaked from pnemonia when a little baby. I've had your run of the mill cold that is going around, but you just refrain from smoking while your system is stressed, untill it goes away. The problem with pot smoke is it is "hot" and it inflames the back of your throat. Doctors recomend using a bong to cool the smoke. If you smoke like a chimeny, you stand a better chance of irritating your throat.

In states where medical marijuana has been legalized, there are many many people that live, eat, sleep, work, and marijuana is their life's work. It is very very common. I am not fanatically pro-pot, and I concede to the fact that a majority of America, or the world in general, cannot handle drinking or many other drugs, legal or otherwise. This is in stark contrast to to popular opinion of "drugs" being the savior of the human race. People are emotionally screwed up and no amount of bickering and name-calling will ever change that. However, if everyone would stop being angry at their kids, kids who will grow up to pass on that legacy of abuse, then the "need" for escapist drugs will vanish. I used to have an old kitty cat that would always jump up in my lap and love all over me and sniff the second hand smoke whenever I smoked a little marijuana. I do enjoy reading all opinions, even those I disagree with and sometimes I’ve even been known to change my mind. But to allow people to make this their personal webpage for their personal agenda(s) is wrong, in my view. As mentioned by others, those people who feel the need to so strongly promote their respective agenda(s) should establish their own web page. I feel they do more harm then good for their respective agenda(s) when they exhibit the attitude “I will beat you into submission”. To those of you that wish to condemn the paper that’s fine. To be critical of them is fine too, apparently by them allowing those comments. But to be so vile in words because you hate, despise, will never read, wrote them off, name calling, etc. is foolish on your part. I like certain kinds of music and when I find a station that plays something I don’t like guess what I do? I change the station, what a novel idea huh? I exhibit the same process when reading these blogs, if I see the same people over and over blogging on the first page and trying to take over the topic, even if I agree with them, I often times forgo that blog and move on. Sadly I know that I have missed some good points but my life personal time is valuable, I will not to waste it by reading someone idea‘s over and over. I usually get what their saying by their first couple of posts, why read more of the same? Have I always agreed with the Gazette? No and never will. Do I work for them? No and probably never will. Actually I’ve been on the opposite end where they need to talk to me for stories. I feel they do a pretty good job at what they do, if I didn’t I would not be here. Gazette, thank you for allowing us to respond, I actually do enjoy reading the varied opinions as I learn a lot from them, sadly some of what I read on how people feel and think worries me. P.S. I realize that the above is more then one paragraph, I hope to someday learn how to format it so when I cut and paste it my writings will appear with the proper spacing.

I have not read one truthful scientific fact posted in literally thousands of posts in several cannabis stories here, posted by an anti-pot. The reason this information was censored is because it was too accurate, and exposed the fact that most people are living a lie as it pertains to Marijuana. This scares the anti-pots, and rightly so. Dont buy any the first time. Get someone you trust to smoke you out. Dont let them tell you how either, just take what you feel comfortable with.

Take a toke, and wait to see if you feel anything. The first time I tried I didnt feel anything. Take a toke and wait 30 minuets.

The old addage that if you hold the smoke in for a long time, that it will work better. This is not necessarily true.

The rumors that cannabis is more dangerous than ciggys as it pertains to your lungs is not true. The oils and or "tars" from cannabis are soluable in your mucus and saliva, and your lungs can actually clean themselves of these oils, but the oils and tars in tobacco are not soluable in your saliva, and stick and build up in the lungs.

Wait 30 minuets to see if you dont feel a difference in the pain level. The potency of the herb, and the strain will make a difference on how effective it is for the symptoms you are trying to relieve.

Dont let your first experience make your decisions on it's efficacy. The strain you try the first time might not be the strain that best relieves your symptoms. The effects of cannabis are generally quite mild. DO NOT EXPECT A STRONG BUZZ. Also, the buzz from cannabis is nothing like the buzz from alcohol. Dont expect an alcohol type buzz. What you might expect is a feeling of well being, a euphoria, a desire to smile.

Ask your friend if they think the strain you are trying is strong or mild. Ask if they know if it is INDICA or SATIVA. If you are trying to relieve chronic pain you will be better off with an INDICA strain. If you are trying to stimulate apetite, you might want to try a SATIVA.

Dont try it the first time with someone who thinks it is a big joke, and is goofing off. Be serious and treat it like medicine, as that is what it is.

Medical cannabis is not intended to treat ACUTE pain. Acute pain, is pain that is caused by a minor trauma and is expected to go away in less than a few days. Medical cannabis is mostly effective on CHRONIC pain, caused by nerve damage or other neurological reasons, that is constant and does not go away with time.

This is not intended to encourage anyone to use cannabis, but is merely a suggestion on how one might use it the first time if they have already decided to do so.

A very small percentage of people have allergic reactions to cannabis, however, no one has died from it. If you suffer from other alergies, you should be cautious with cannabis the first time. If you have a bad reaction, just lay down and sleep it off. You are not going to die from it.

marijuana in its green form, or any form is a controlled substance according to the controlled substances act of 1970 which classified it as a schedule 1 narcotic which means docs cant prescribe it. fyi cocaine is a schedule 2 narcotic which means a doc can in fact prescribe it.

delta: I also saw a story about medical pot in CA. and the stores that sell it. I've never bought pot but 1 gram of the cheap stuff was $45 before the tax. marijuana could definitely have helped with the pain for your g-ma. im glad youve put some thought into it, for realz. to many anti's, it seems, rant about the dangers of marijuana without ever having smoked it on a regular basis or even slowing down to think about the points we make. the sad thing is if you g-ma was in wi she couldnt have legally chosen marijuana if she wanted. my ex's ma passed away this spring from cancer and her dr in madison told her 'i cant prescribe it but you should find some marijuana and smoke it for your pain'. the totally legal aspect is a BIG debate. i think as long as uncle sam allows legal alcohol/tobacco/scripts there should be no debate, but i understand the battle. the medical side of it tho...i dont understand. this has been used as medicine FOREVER, and not used as medicine for just over 70 years. people dieing in pain every day whose quality of life would be improved immediately by simply eating a cannabis cookie or two, which i have made and are delish;), but its just sad that corporate greed and government hypocrisy keep that option illegal. WE SHOULD ALL BE INSULTED BY THAT.

If you want to judge someone's character by a choice they've made, have at it. I'm not perfect so I don't feel I have the right to judge anyone. If marijuana was legalized, it would be regulated, just like alcohol and cigarettes. You couldn't buy it without ID. So they wouldn't be selling to children. There! I just solved your problem! Ok so heres the thing. I have been thinking ALOT and I have thought about it from a medical point of view. When my grandmother was sick right before she passed she was in ALOT of pain. If there had been some drug that she could have taken wihout makign her feel worse like most of the stuff they had her on, that would have been great. But I do not in any way shape or form want it legalized just so john doe can get high and forget about his day at work. Unless of course they price it high and tax the crap out of it and make it like $900 for an ounce and then use the money for cancer reseach then go ahead....

And no I dont want anyone living next door that could indanger my son, HOWEVER, my neighbors have 2 new cars, very nice patio sets a brand new grill. In other words you can tell they have money. if i dont smoke pot for a week, and i run a stop sign and kill someone, the ONLY drug you will find in my body is pot. that doesnt mean i wrecked BECAUSE of the marijuana. thats one of the biggest hurdles for legalization...is how to determine someone is high now, or got high last week. but as dank posted earlier...if you have to question whether someone is impaired or not...how impaired are they...

Ok, I can understand marijuana for medical purposes, by way of a drs prescription but just for recreational use I don't agree with, I do believe it is harmful - a friend of mine about 15yrs ago was killed by a driver who did not have alchol in their system they had marijuana and thats all they had in their system so I am not in favor of it being legalized for recreational use.

Suggest removal Illegal drug dealers would lose their profit base if cannabis was legalized accross the board. Right now, recreational pot dealers are getting about 2.5 times what it costs to produce an ounce of cannabis.

I dont know what it costs in your region to grow an ounce, but from experience I can tell you that it costs roughly $200 per ounce to grow an ounce here in Seattle, and the dispensaries get roughly $270 per ounce from donations reieved from the patients. $70 per ounce pretty much covers the cost of operating a dispensary, and $200 goes to the grower for covering thier exspenses.

Medical cannabis has costed $200 - $270 per ounce in Seattle for the past 10 years.

A recreational dealer can easily sell this same grade of cannabis comcercially for $500 an ounce, and do so consistantly. Legalizing it would eliminate this price gouging.

The price of supplies would eventually come down due to demand, and more people would use the sun verses electricity to grow it, also bringing down the cost significantly.

Also, making it legal would take the profits right out of the cannabis detection industry. Millions of dollars per year are being made on drug testing supplies. This industry would grind to a slow drool.

Making it legal has alot more effects on society than people are willing to ponder. There is alot more too it than just the facts that children shouldnt use it, and you should not drive while using it.

I however feel that more jobs would be created by legalization, than would be lost. The hemp industry could create millions of jobs, if it were simply legal to grow it.

Around here, the price is about 350 to 400 (depending). I know the west coast is a little higher than here, but 500?!!

We've been told by those who support the legalization of marijuana that the drug is harmless, that those who use it are mellow and agreeable making it sound like a cure for bad tempers! Yet I heard an interesting piece of news the other day about Steve McNair's girlfriend, the one who shot and killed him and then herself. It seems that she had marijuana in her bloodstream. I wonder, could it be that marijuana intoxication may interfere with judgement, with clear thinking? One thing is clear. Why oh why do we spend so much time busting the poor pothead? Rapists,robbers,gangs,just to name a few, seem more important to arrest to keep Janesville safe. I just don't see the importance of spending resources on weed. Smoke, eat, sleep. Doesn't sound very violent to me!

I do think there are far better uses for our police forces. The harder drugs are more often the ones associated with victims. If pot is so bad, why does the medical profession support it to relieve symptoms from certain ailments or treatments?

My ex smoked pot & he had a problem with alcohol. It's my experience that the legal alcohol would bring out the violence in him, whereas smoking a joint would often mellow him out. Hmmmm...which do you think I preferred?

If our governments were smart, they'd legalize it, tax it, reduce or eliminate the budget deficits and end up with a happier group of citizens.

Some people feel that doing something illegal in the same house as a child is not good parenting they feel that it is telling the child that is is ok to do something illegal. It is that persons right to feel that way. I would also like to know where you found that marijuana is a medicine all I can find is that is is an illegal substance. No place can I find that it is a medicine even tho people use it for medicinal use.

Just because I don't want marijuana leagalized doesn't mean I am in favor of prohibition. Its an illegal substance the JPD did their job. Ok, well lets see, I know what it smells like because kidssmoke it infront of and on the side area of my house. I live near a highschool and have called the cops many times because they dont need to be selling it and smoking it on the sidewalks. And yes I have seem them be arrested for it. So I know what it smells like. My husband tried it once becuse his ex smoked it all the time so he knows what it smells like. So YES thats what it was. Second, it was nice so our ac was off. Our neighbors dont have any ac so their windows are always open, and being in the city there is little room for it to go.
