Republican to challenge Sen. Robson

JANESVILLE A local man made it official Wednesday: He’s running against state Sen. Judy Robson in the 2010 elections.
Rick Richard, 42, of 2625 W. Highway 14 in Janesville Township, is running as a Republican.
The winner of the November 2010 election will represent the 15th Senate District, which comprises most of Rock County and the northwestern corner of Walworth County.
On his Web site, Richard paints Robson, D-Beloit, as a tax-and-spender who participated in the closed-door meetings where details of the latest state budget were hammered out.
Richard said he knows how to bring jobs to an area, and that would be his top priority. He said he would work for greater transparency in government, gun rights and lower taxes.
Richard belongs to St. John Vianney Parish in Janesville, and is a former board member of the Rock County Republican Party.
Richard and his wife, Diedre, own and operate RD Worldwide, a management search and temporary staffing firm. Diedre was elected to the Janesville School Board in April. The couple have two children.

Time for Judy to go... she has gotten herself entrenched into the political web. She reached her pinnacle as speaker and failed. Time for her to retire. We need a Republican voice in Madison for a change! Look what the dems have done so far!

Judy has not done a good job while in office. It's about time we got new blood in this office for Rock County.

Good point darwin:
There are always ways to find your way around taxation. The real Americans do not whine, and simply find the loop holes in the thousands of pages of tax codes. Hence; why so many with huge wealth never pay much income tax, and have their assets tied up in foreign bank accounts, have a foreign residency, ext. There are always ways around any tax, and the scamming of the system is going to increase to unprecedented levels; as more and more think that their tax $$$'s are simply being wasted.

The PTW (Property Tax Whiners) are alive and well. If you don't like property taxes you can sell your home and move to a state where they don't have property taxes? You could start a church or non-profit out of your home? There are many options, however, these would involve doing something other than whining. Clearly, Republicans are trying to create a culture of victimization and self-absorption.

Good point, kuznacic. I figured everyone understands that's how elections work, but perhaps I should have laid it out for those who don't.
======================
As of this morning, the only candidate registered on the state Government Accountability Board'd Web site to run in the 15th Senate District race is Judy Robson, so she at least is keeping her options open. Richard said he was going to register Wednesday, but perhaps the bureaucrats haven't gotten around to posting it yet.
========================
If there's anyone else out there who's going to run -- from any party or no party -- give me a ring. I'd be glad to announce your candidacy, too. 755-8252/fschultz@gazettextra.com.

I believe that both the headline and info contained in this story are inaccurate and misleading.
First, Richard is not "running against" Robson -- he has declared his intention to seek the Republican nomination for the 15th Senate District. If other Republicans announce their intent to run, Richard first will compete against them for the GOP nomination.
Second, I have not yet heard that Robson announced she is seeking another term. Even if she is, she is not guaranteed to represent the Democratic ticket in November 2010; if other Democrats throw their hats into the ring, she also must advance past a primary to represent the party on the ballot.
If you read the story at face value, it leaves the impression that the Richard vs. Robson race is set in stone, when it is most definitely not.

Your state legislator has an impact on local property taxes because when they do things at the state level like cut state aid to local communities, that just forces the local community to fill in the short fall by raising property taxes. Also the recent lifting of the QEO at the state level will create a very favorable situation to increase property taxes.
.
Taxes will be going up everywhere do not kid yourself. Massive tax increases have all ready been passed at the state level to fill in the $6 billion budget short fall...Local property taxes will be the next thing to see huge increases in the very near future. Government will never cut back, and the private sector (who supports governmnet) is shrinking by the day.

"since when does a state legislator have anything to do with setting your property taxes?"
-
I would say, since your property taxes in Wisconsin have a portion going directly to the state (smaller than local govt) they do play a direct part in setting your property taxes...
