Janesville 13s win twice

Janesville won a pair of games to open the Babe Ruth Baseball 13-year-old district tournament in Reedsburg on Wednesday.

Janesville pounded Edgerton, 11-0, and Waunakee, 13-1.

Starting pitcher Brandon Hughes held Edgerton to one hit. The game was halted after six innings by the 10-run rule.

Edgerton’s lone hit was an infield single in the fifth inning. Janesville scored six runs on five hits and two errors in the sixth inning to put the game away.

Nate Hoag had three hits in four at-bats to lead Janesville’s 10-hit attack. Adam Catacutan had two hits, and teammate Troy Malmanger added two hits and three RBIs.

In Game 2, Janesville pitcher Korey Quade held Waunakee to one run on two hits. Brandon Hughes had a pair of hits and an RBI to lead Janesville’s seven-hit attack.

Janesville faces Mount Horeb at noon today. The winner will advance to the championship game on Friday, while the loser will play a team to be determined at 5:30 this afternoon.

Dalton Johns threw a three-hit shutout to lead Janesville to a 10-0 victory in five innings over Sauk Prairie in the Babe Ruth Baseball 14-year-old District 2 tournament opener in Waunakee on Wednesday.

Adam Greene went 3-for-4 with a pair of RBIs to lead Janesville’s seven-hit attack. Jarred Fish smacked a bases-loaded double to key Janesville’s seven-run fourth inning.

Janesville will play West Madison at 11 this morning at Waunakee Athletic Complex at Waunakee High School. Janesville must place in the tournament’s top three to advance to the state tournament July 22-26 in Eau Claire.
