— A Janesville woman suffered burns early Monday morning while working at SSI Technologies Sintered Specialties Division on Palmer Drive.

Corrina Hyler-Bray, 51, of Beloit, was operating some machinery when something happened and burned her, said a spokesman from the fire department. Hyler-Bray was transported by a Janesville Fire Department ambulance to Mercy Hospital. She was treated and released.

Christy Willis, director of human resources at SSI, was unable to provide details of what happened Monday morning.

"We're doing a thorough investigation to make sure we've got all the details," she said.

Willis said Hyler-Bray has been employed by SSI just less than five years.

A womans face was burned, she could have lost her vision, had permanent scarring & lost her job because she could no longer work and all you people can complain about is the gazette reporting it. Why are half the things papers report on news? Because it's something that happened in the community. Paramedics responded, if someone had a scanner and heard someone was burned, maybe they want to know! This is not something that happens very often at SSI. I hope that Corina is okay and that she isn't in much pain.

The Gazette is just trying to learn how to be a paper without GM articles to regurgitate all the time. The only reason I read this pathetic publication is its Janesville's only news source

Your right Hannah they don't report all Workers Comp injuries. Of course not all car accidents, not every robbery nor every fire. Why is any of it news? Why bother reporting anything at all. If they can't tell us about everything then they shouldn't tell us about anything!

Housewife, if you are so stuck on grammar, why don't you proofread your posts before posting them?

Your original quote was:
"Something happened and she burned her?"

You didn't really quote the Gazette. A quote is actual words. You should have left off the quotation marks (see how that works? QUOT-ation marks). As for you going to wikipedia and looking up a bunch of words commonly used in basic grammar courses - pathetic. You are trying to cover the fact that you yourself do not proofread your own posts about people who do not proofread.

I could've made a long story short by telling you to reread the article. The fire department gave the Gazette the information that you are referring to. If you want to jump down someone's throat, the FD should be your victim. But that would be silly, although I'm sure you will still write the FD a letter. Before you do, please realize that the FD has more important things to worry about than appeasing an Evansville housewife by taking grammar courses.

So, Serindipitous, the query here is if she is the subjective noun or the acting noun. Ie, was she burned or did she burn herself? If the machine is the acting noun, it did indeed burn her.
Either way, the "something" is the acting noun here in the predicate case, so if the something did burn her, they should have chosen a better descriptive word for the acting noun (ie, the machine)

No, the issue I have is with the poor grammar.

"Something happened and she burned her?"
At the very least, it should say, " An accident occurred and she burned herself."

If you reread the article, it said "was operating some machinery when something happened and burned her". The MACHINE burned her. Ugh.

Supposedly, she was working on one of the furnaces and it blew out a flame. I used to work there and I remember that a malfunction would happen in the furnace. If air blew into the outgoing side of the furnace just the right way, it would release a flame because too much gas was going in. I've always thought that SSI needs to do something about their furnaces. They let the most irresponsible people be responsible for them. When you're mixing gasses and fire, there should be experts on them, not just random people that have "tested out". I feel horrible for this woman, but hopefully this will prove to the company that SOMETHING needs to be done. I hope she does something about it too.

I love it when ignorant people complain about the Gazettes reporting. Especially when it clearly states that the company is still investigating. If you know SO SO MUCH about good reporting then how come you dont own the worlds best newspaper?

I'm so glad to hear that "something happened": surely you could do some reporting to be more precise.
