Albion scored two major gains Sunday in Home Talent League baseball.

While the first-place Tigers gained revenge for an early-season loss with an 8-2 victory over visiting Evansville, they gained a two-game lead in the West Division of the Southeast Section by notching their seventh straight win to go 9-3.

Lodi beat Utica, 8-0, and left the two teams tied for second place behind Albion at 7-5.

Mike Nanstad had another exceptional performance in pitching a two-hitter for Albion. He had 13 strikeouts in his complete game and allowed no walks until giving two in Evansville’s two-run eighth inning.

Nick Manion singled off the shortstop’s glove in the second inning, and Nic Larson singled to right in the third for Evansville’s only hits.

Albion took command in a three-run first inning that started with leadoff man Aaron Laskowski reaching on an error. He scored on a single by Ethan Vaade, the division’s leading hitter, and Jesse Appel followed with another single.

The Tigers got their second run on Marty Johnson’s ground-rule double to left field, and they made 3-0 on Jason Millar’s sacrifice fly.

Jim Eastman led off the Albion second with a double and scored from third on Ben Everson’s squeeze bunt that went for a hit to highlight a two-run second. The Tigers extended their 5-0 lead to 8-0 with runs in the third, fourth and seventh.

Laskowski had an RBI double in the third, Nanstad doubled and scored on Johnson’s single in the fourth, and Eastman’s third hit of the game drove in Brian Towns in the seventh.

-- Stoughton 3, Orfordville 0—Stoughton evened its West Division record at 6–6 by beating the visiting Orioles (4-8) on Eric Engler’s complete-game, seven-hit pitching.

Orfordville had only one runner reach third base and two get as far as second.

Stoughton grabbed a 1-0 lead in the fourth on Tyler Wilberg’s single and two errors. Engler singled in the sixth and scored on Jake Brandt’s hit. Wilberg singled in the eighth and scored on an infield error.

-- Lodi 8, Utica 0—Winning pitcher Kyle Mack allowed only three singles and had a two-run single in the second to highlight Lodi’s key victory.

Kelby Mack had a two-run homer in the first, and Tyler Kurt had a two-run double in a four-run sixth.

-- Fort Atkinson 7, Jefferson 0—Dan Dean and Rick Klotz pitched a three-hitter as the East Division leaders boosted their record 11-1 and dropped Jefferson to 7-5.

-- Deerfield 6, Whitewater 1—Mike Hommen pitched a two-hitter and collected two doubles to lead Deerfield (5-7) past Whitewater (2-10) in an East Division matchup.

-- Cambridge 12, Lake Mills 2—Cambridge (8-4) moved closer to clinching an East Division playoff spot by routing Lake Mills (3-9) in seven innings.

Adrian Flores pitched a seven-hitter for the winners and doubled in a four-run first inning.
