Legion clinches division title

— The Janesville American Legion baseball team swept Kenosha 4-3, 11-0, to win the Lakes Area Legion League’s American West Division regular-season title here Wednesday.

Janesville finished the league regular season 11-4, while Kenosha fell to 7-6. Kenosha had to sweep Janesville to tie for the West Division title.


Janesville scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to seal its title. Trailing 3-2, the Legion came through with two runs on three hits. Dylan Grall singled to score B.J. Scharenbroch with the winning run.


Kenosha scored one run in the seventh off Janesville reliever Cody Steed to break a 2-2 tie. Steed allowed just one hit to gain the victory.


Grall, Janesville’s starting pitcher, allowed two runs on eight hits through five innings.


In Game 2, the Legion banged out 15 hits, including Kelly Silha’s home run to down Kenosha in five innings. Zach Bayreuther and Grall had three RBIs apiece.


Janesville’s Tyler Teubert held Kenosha to one hit for the shutout.

n Janesville West wins division title—The Janesville West Junior Legion pounded Beloit 10-4 to win the American Division title of the 17-and-under Lakes Area League.


However, Janesville lost 2-0 to Waterford for the overall league championship. Janesville is 11-7 overall.


Janesville pounded out 12 hits to defeat Beloit. Andy Kersten had three hits, while Taran Kobs, Josh Garcia and Tanner Moe had two hits apiece.


Trent Kobs posted nine strikeouts in going the distance for Janesville victory.


The West team includes Marques Emerson, Matt Fiedler, Josh Garcia, Zach Hamel, Seo Hernandez, Andy Kersten, Taran Kobs, Trent Kobs, Chase Lee, Connor Long, Hunter Marshall, Tanner Moe, Aaron Polzin, Jake Welch and Caleb Williams.
