State landfill surcharges to increase
JANESVILLE Due to a provision in the state's biennial budget, the state's landfill surcharges will be increasing by $4.10 on each ton of waste disposed in state landfills.
This brings the total of all state surcharges to $10 per ton. The landfill gat rate will increase from $21.80 to $25.90. Individual vehicle fees will also increase as follows:
-- 60 gallons of waste or less (Janesville residents only)—no charge.
-- Passenger car—$3.
-- Station wagons, mini-vans and sport/utility vehicles—$3.75.
-- Vans, mid-size pickup trucks and trailers with a capacity of two cubic yards or less—$6.25.
-- Full-size pickup trucks and trailers with a capacity of more than two cubic yards—$9.
-- All other vehicles and trailers, including those modified to increase capacity beyond standard—$25.90/ton.
Another increase in the state's landfill surcharges will be effective Oct. 1. That increase is $3 per ton and will be added to the city's landfill fees on the effective date.
