Beloit stifles Janesville Legion

JANESVILLE — Grant Oldenburg had the Janesville American Legion team’s number Wednesday night.

The righthander allowed only four hits and struck out six in leading Beloit to a 5-2 win at Riverside Park in the first game of the Mike Grogan Classic Tournament.

Beloit scored three runs in the top of the first inning without a hit as three walks and an error opened the door.

“We didn’t play very well tonight,” Janesville coach Ron Pohlman said. “Too many errors and not enough hits.

“And the Beloit pitcher (Oldenburg) was pretty tough. It just wasn’t our night.”

Janesville cut the lead to 3-1 in the fourth on Christian DeCremer’s RBI groundout, but Beloit answered with two runs in the fifth.

Tyler Teubert, who had two of Janesville’s four hits, homered in the sixth to cut the lead to 5-2.

Janesville (9-5, 6-2 in the American League West Region 7) will play the Janesville West Junior Legion team at 6:30 tonight at Riverside in game three of the Grogan Classic.
