— The Janesville American Legion baseball team relied on two big innings to drop Darien, 12-9 on Tuesday night.

Janesville scored five runs in the second inning to wipe out a 3-0 deficit. After Darien cut the Legion lead to 8-7, Janesville rallied for four runs in the sixth inning for a 12-7 lead.

Janesville’s Matt Beyer continued his hot hitting, going 3-for-5 with three RBIs, including a double and a triple. Zach Bayreuther and Dylan Grall added three RBIs, while Grall added a home run.

Janesville starter Cody Steed allowed five runs—three earned—in four innings to take the victory. David Jacobson did a yeoman job in relief, allowing three runs—one earned—on one hit, striking out seven and walking four through the final three innings.

Only four of the Legion’s runs were earned. Darien, which played with only nine players, committed five errors and walked seven.

The Legion (9-4) will play Beloit at 5 this afternoon to open the Grogan Tournament at Riverside Park.
