Parker gymnasts shine

WHITEWATER — There was no stopping top-ranked Waterford, but it was a strong day for Milton and a record-setting one for Janesville Parker in the Whitewater Invitational gymnastics meet.

Waterford, No. 1 in the Division 1 state ratings at 141.525, won Satuday’s seven-team meet with a 140.275. Milton was second at 130.5, followed by Parker at 129.5

While Parker posted its highest score of the season, topping a 128.2 against Madison Memorial the first week of January, Erika Whitson of the Vikings broke her school record in the all-round. The sophomore standout had a 35.95, which placed her second behind Waterford’s Kaitlyn Kram, who had a 36.45.

Whitson earned her spot by finishing second by Kram on the balance beam and in floor exercise. Whitson also was fifth on the uneven bars and sixth on the vault.

“Erika is like everyone else on our team,’’ Parker coach Cathy Lehman said. “Things are happening, and we competed very well as a team.’’

Waterford’s Amanda Kram won on the uneven bars, and Whitewater’s Kim Stonewerth won the vault to account for the other firsts. Carleigh Felstead led Milton with a second-place finish on the vault, along with thirds on the uneven bars and balance beam and in all-around.
