Memorial drops Craig boys
MADISON Another slow start led to another Big Eight Conference loss for Janesville Craig High School’s boys basketball team Saturday night.
Five-time defending conference champion Madison Memorial had a 16-point lead after the first quarter and coasted to a 57-37 win.
“Memorial is Memorial and their pattern is to play cat and mouse,” Craig coach Bob Suter said. “They play around and play around with you and when they’ve had enough of you all of a sudden they chomp, and they chomped.”
The loss was the fifth in the last six games for Craig (6-8, 5-7) and the second time in the last two games that the Cougars fell below 40 points.
The second-ranked Spartans (13-1, 11-1) had three players in double figures, led by Marquette University recruit Jeronne Maymon, who finished with a game-high 18. Tre Creamer added 13 points for Memorial and University of Wisconsin recruit Vander Blue, a junior, chipped in 12.
Craig senior center JoJo Pregont was the only Cougar in double figures for the second straight game. Pregont finished with 11 points.
Despite trailing by 19 at half, Craig played even with the Spartans the second half.
