The visit from the Mexican Consulate of Chicago will continue today and through the weekend.
Mexican citizens can go to the Rock County Job Center, 1900 Center Ave., Janesville, from 12:30 to 8 p.m. today and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday to obtain Mexican passports or identification cards. Applicants will receive numbers for service 30 minutes before the consulate opens.
Applicants must bring original birth certificates or certified copies, photo identification and proof of address. Cost is $27 for the Mexican ID card, $74 for a three-year passport and $101 for a six-year passport.

JANESVILLE Jose Guadalupe de la Cruz and his wife, Pantaleona, Delavan, wanted to renew their passports for a visit to their home country.
Ramiro Hernandez, Beloit, wanted to get his passport for the first time to use as identification for bank accounts and other services.
More than 200 Mexican nationals visited the Rock County Job Center on Thursday to obtain passports, known as matriculas consulares. They came from all over Rock and Walworth counties, representing a variety of ages, family backgrounds and circumstances.
The Mexican Consulate of Chicago started its mobile consulate 10 years ago, said consul Francisco Valdes. This is the consulate’s first trip to Janesville, though it has visited Beloit and Madison, he said.
The visit is a service of the Mexican government for Mexican citizens, he said. It was paid for by Blackhawk Community Credit Union with non-financial support from the YWCA, Hedberg Public Library and volunteers.
“We’re just providing a needed service to the community,” said Evelyn Woodring, YWCA Immigrant Outreach Program director. “It’s not paid for by the taxpayers.”
Mexican citizens who brought proper paperwork, including original birth certificates or certified copies, photo identification and proof of address, received their passports or IDs the same day.
Workers verified documents, took photographs and fingerprints and processed the applications as dozens of people waited in a large room at the Rock County Job Center.
The demand for Mexican passports has gone up since the United States started requiring passports to cross the Mexican and Canadian borders in 2007 and 2008, Valdes said.
Jose Guadalupe de la Cruz and his wife needed to renew their passports because they are planning a trip to Mexico in March to visit family, he said.
“It’s easier to not lose the time traveling to Chicago” to get the passports, Jose said in Spanish.
Their children have dual citizenship in Mexico and the United States, so they can use American passports, Jose said.
Consulate workers did not verify applicants’ immigration status because that’s not their business, Woodring said.
“These are (the consulate’s) nationals,” she said. “They’re here to serve their citizens.”
It’s the U.S. government’s job to monitor immigration through Immigration and Customs Enforcement, she said.
Still, it’s a misconception to assume all applicants are illegal immigrants or can’t speak English, said Crusita Barrios, YWCA Hispanic outreach specialist. Though most of the business was conducted in Spanish on Thursday, many of the applicants speak English as well, especially the younger ones, she said.
It’s important for immigrants to carry identification whether or not they’re in this country legally, said officer Chad Sullivan with the Janesville Police Department.
Sullivan, who speaks Spanish, stopped by Thursday to help people whose IDs have been stolen obtain police reports.
“This doesn’t give them any right to drive or any other rights,” he said. “It’s just an ID.”
Local police don’t have jurisdiction to enforce immigration laws, and they need to know whom they’re dealing with in matters of state and local law, he said.
“It’s just being able to put a picture ID to a person,” he said.

Too strict? Sounds Good to Me.
The above laws are the current immigration laws of MEXICO. Wake up America, we are losing our country.

Everyone is so upset that "they" are taking "our" jobs... WHY? How many of the jobs that "They" have, would "we" be willing to do? I mean seriously... and what would closing an account at a bank mean? Nothing.. if anything it will increase their business b/c they are willing to help.

This isn't about fear; it's about common sense. I want the best possible future living standards for each successive generation of Americans. Adding to the population at the current rate infringes on their ability to have that pleasant future. Immigration doesn't have to end altogether (as I've said on here MULTIPLE times), it just has to start following the rules and following actual need, and not the ginned-up needs of companies just wanting to pay half-price for H1-B labor, and less than half price for the rest of the imported labor. And illegal immigration has to be stopped, period. Then we'll really know what the issues are, once the borders/ports are secure. As of now, we have to do too much guesstimating. Make the borders/ports secure, then we'll count heads and take accounts. My guess is at that point we'll say, "Whoa!"

Iceman, increasing population is inevitable. Your argument is turning from rants on legality issues to ending immigration all together?
We are in the lower 25% in terms of population density compared to the rest of the countries of the world!! Our current population growth rates are still in the bottom 30%. Get your fears in check bud, and quit trying to infect others with them.
The US Census Bureaus’ mid-range population estimate for year 2100 is around 571 million, within an overall range of 280 million – 1.8 billion. India’s current population is 1.1 billion—when our population reaches that number, we will have about the same population density of present-day France. Population growth/decay rates do not remain constant—and future immigration trends are nearly impossible to predict.

EVEN WITHOUT AMNESTY WE'LL HAVE INDIA'S POPULATION?? UGH! End of population argument right there. Period. Anyone know any good Antarctic realtors?

As hard as I try, humoring your claims become quite difficult when you try supporting your argument with rants that support a greater racist paranoia rather than obedience of written law. Using ethnic minorities, immigrants, etc. as a scapegoat for our economic strains isn’t a new idea—seems to crop up in a large way every couple generations. Hitler did it; did it well.
-
Third-world migrant workers come seeking third-world jobs, regardless of how they chose to move here (or their “Legal Status”). Those Americans so threatened by losing unskilled work should start being a bit more grateful they live in the “Land of Opportunity”. Educational opportunities are abundant, and they have the freedom to find better work if they so choose. Also, if we are so fearful our grandchildren will have too much competition in future labor markets, we should be putting greater investment into education; or at least set the bar a bit higher for our children/grandchildren then for them to obtain unskilled work. Simply “eliminating” the competitor is a pretty lazy and heartless idea at best. Maybe we could even show interest in competing with some of the developed countries in terms of jobs/labor… Get a new competitor and start moving forward.
-
Changing legal status of the current “illegal” population will create devastating overpopulation!? Compared to Antarctica? Now our fear is the invasion of our 100 mile comfort bubble. If overpopulation is your true concern, promote birth control and adoption. Start with our “native” white population. I have many white Devout Catholic cousins who seem to squirt out a kid every 9 months like clockwork. Better yet, go to a country where overpopulation is actually a REAL problem. Your service would be appreciated.

Many try to be cute about this and play it off like it is not an issue of race and you are in no way xenophobic. I’ll play along; I’ll humor you for a bit. I’ll go ahead and believe you’re just concerned citizens with utmost respect for the law. If this would truly be the case, there would be little issue here; and your fear, paranoia, and rage (or as Iceman put it, “disgust”) is simply a bit misplaced. You are disgusted at the lack of enforcement and under policing regarding our beloved laws. Your “disgust” could easily be applied to laws based on relative importance and prevalence. For example, drunk driving, speeding, and vehicular homicide—more people die in our country as a result of “Illegal Drinking” and “Illegal Driving” (and a combination of the two) than “Illegal Immigration”. I personally know dozens of people who’ve been personally affected by drinking and driving—resulting in OWI’s, extensive property damage, severe injuries, and multiple deaths. Almost all of these in the Janesville area; none of those involved had questionable immigration status. I guess luckily enough for my white “native” friends and family, none of them are given the cute labels of “Illegal Drinkers/Drivers”. Our labels of inferiority are strictly designated for those you’d deem a sub species based on birthplace, religion, ancestral origin, race, etc. Ie: “Illegal Immigrants/Aliens”, even “terrorists”, etc.

Babaloo, once again, it’s difficult to make such direct comparisons to such a different era. Even if the sheer numbers of European immigrants in previous waves were relatively comparable to the numbers of Mexican, Central & S. American immigrants today; the language issue is definitely not comparable. The immigrant makeup in the 19th and early 20th centuries was a bit more diverse in terms of their native languages. Germans, Swedes, Norwegians, Italians, Dutch, Danes, etc. all spoke their own respective languages. The concentrations of immigrant groups in the US of any one native language set not nearly the same as today—it would not have been practical if even possible to accommodate to each and every group. Today we have a largest groups of immigrants speak a common language whether they’re from Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, Colombia, etc. It’s much easier to make to help a large group of immigrants’ transition to US citizenship easier—which is obviously important in a very impatient and culturally intolerant society of “natives”.
You’re also making a couple common and ignorant assumptions. “Why should the Spanish speaking population expect us to use our tax dollars to print everything in their language while they are here illegally?” The assumptions that native Spanish speakers are “illegal” and don’t deserve to be here. Simple example—Puerto Rico is still one of our QuasiColonies. Their native language is Spanish, though we ensure they learn English at a very young age. Although they can speak English, they have little reason to unless speaking to a native English speaker. Being who we are, we have little if any knowledge of their existence. Also, hearing someone speaking Spanish does not mean they cannot speak English—not everyone in the world takes as much pride in knowing only one language as we do. I’m also not sure how you are so convinced that our immigrant population isn’t learning, isn’t trying. Are you tracking the progress of each individual in their language skills? Again, this isn’t an overnight process. None of my Norwegian and German ancestors learned overnight—and again, it took a couple generations to phase their native languages out completely—which is insanely our ancestral languages all had to disappear at all. (Seems pretty counter-productive in the long run; being much more expensive and difficult to pick up a foreign language later in life…also a bit ironic in a nation with half its population obsessed with their taxpennies, and outraged when they go toward education).

Hill Republican: Stimulus aids illegal immigrants
By JULIE HIRSCHFELD DAVIS – 4 days ago
WASHINGTON (AP) — A top Republican congressional aide says the $800 billion-plus economic stimulus measure could steer government checks to illegal immigrants.
Republican officials are concerned that the Democratic-written legislation makes people who came to the United States illegally eligible for tax credits of $500 per worker and $1,000 per couple.
A House-passed version of the bill and one making its way through the Senate both disqualify nonresident aliens from receiving the credits. But neither requires a worker to have a Social Security number to get the credits.
An economic aid measure enacted in February 2008 that sent rebates to most wage earners required that people have valid Social Security numbers in order to get checks.

ICE, what you're neglecting to see is that this is not a recent problem. It all started when Mexicans were allowed to come to the southwest to work on the railroad and agricultural businesses on temporary work over a hundred years ago. It was US, the United States that started to abuse and use cheap Mexican work labor to further American business. It was the US that started it, by inviting them here to do the work that Americans were too good for. Then, all of a sudden, when jobs became scarse, Americans started having a problem with it. How are you going to change the course of history when it already happened? We opened the door to it such a long time ago. Are you telling me that people who got laid off at GM are going to start bussing tables at OCB (Old Country Buffet)? I don't think so.

Why should the Spanish speaking population expect us to use our tax dollars to print everything in their language while they are here illegally? I find it funny that having illegals used to be just a Southern problem. Now that they have made their way up North, everyone wants Washington to take care of the problem. Yet, you won't have a problem when housing and repair services are cheaper because of them. It will happen too. I am surprised the various construction companies up there are not taking advantage of the cheaper wages.

Angst and anger? Not really...more like "disgust." Disgust that the mainstream media is in the pocket of the open-borders crowd. Disgust that the ACLU, formerly the American Civil Liberties Union, now might as well be called the "ALIEN Civil Liberties Union," since they constantly file lawsuits to protect illegal aliens and illegal employers. Disgust that the very nice push on workplace raids the last few years will now probably be suspended by Napolitano and Obama, because the ethnocentric interest groups have convinced Obama that he won due only to their support. Disgust that too many Americans don't mind that their kids and grandkids will enter a downgraded labor market due to illegals and their employers dropping the bottom out of the labor market. Disgust that too many Americans don't realize the overpopulation ramifications of suddenly "legalizing" 15 to 20 million scammers, thus allowing them to start sponsoring even MORE relatives from points distant to come here, as well...absolutely BALLOONING out of control the federal budget (which is already messed up enough) and all other social systems. Disgust that the facts of this debate always end up being dismissed by charges of racism, when debaters like me have never been racists in our lives. Disgust that so many Americans who want to cite the Statue of Liberty forget that justice is the underpinning of freedom and liberty, and justice cannot exist where a government selectively enforces laws and becomes a government of "men," and no longer a government of "laws."

Racism has to do with who people are, not with what they have done. Illegals have done something wrong and need to be accountable for it, no matter what color they are. We don't need a police state; we just need to enforce current laws and add mandatory E-Verify for all businesses. If all employers used E-Verify, all illegals would be forced "off the books." Then you simply increase business tax audits and enforcement of OSHA and other workplace regulators, and next thing you know, it's really hard to keep your illegals employed illegally in your business. You also give a whistleblower incentive for workers to turn in their employers for keeping illegals off the books, such as two years current pay and benefits once the case results in an indictment. The massive flow of illegals out of the country would be so immediate and pervasive, I'm sure some foreign governments would complain how fast their people are coming back (like the Mexican government did last year after Arizona cracked down on employers and illegals scrambled back to Mexico too fast for Mexico's taste!). When more Americans everyday are becoming "poor" and "huddled," it's time to make sure Americans get first crack at all employment and all benefits of the recovery. If we don't push hard now, while the DHS has workplaces thinking twice about illegal hiring, and illegals are crossing into the U.S. less than in the past, we'll blow a good chance at really turning the tide on this problem. Our kids and grandkids expect us to take care of the labor market that they will enter 5, 10, and 20 years from now...we would be abdicating our responsibility to them if we keep letting illegals and their unethical employers flourish in this country.

Babaloo1 – once again, comparisons back to European ancestors really hold little weight in such a conversation. Most of “our” ancestors were not fluent in English when they arrived; many could not speak it at all. Many learned, obviously, but not over night. It took a couple generations for us to erase our heritage and “assimilate” to our current monolingual status—good god, give them some time.
“Pressing 1 for English”—a traumatic experience. I think many of you have much deeper problems than your ethnic anxieties if you’re becoming so distraught by acknowledging the existence of other languages. If the actual physical action of pressing the extra number is too strenuous, maybe you shouldn’t be operating a phone in the first place—consult your physician.

No you didn't. You quoted a US Congressperson. Oh well then it must be true. Don't feed me garbage and expect me to eat it. Again, why not FBI statistics? Its your claim. Yet, your facts are flimsy. You will never stop immigration documented or otherwise because all of these people are more poor and desperate than you are. You said taxes weren't an issue and then complained that they are a drain on our system. They have fake documentation because they are poor and cannot afford the travel and time to get the proper documentation. And herein lies the dilemma. Every point of your argument has only one side: They are criminals. a drain on our society. You have never once tried to see it from their point of view, the point of view of LIberty and freedom or the Constitution. If you made all immigration legal that would end the problem of depressed wages because there would be no incentive for employers to treat them poorly or cheat them. You can't stop it without turning our democracy into a military state, however you have deluded yourself into thinking you can.
We differ fundamentally on this. I believe that Liberty and Freedom stand for something more than paranoid fear. I believe that our borders should be porous. If you can get here you are in. Will some criminals get in? Of course, just as some criminals wear badges and some criminals get acquitted. But that is what liberty is. You go to New York and spit on the Statue of Liberty and see what happens.
You know some minorities and that means you're not a bigot. Yes, and every Pole knew a Jew until they were all gone. You're a bigot because you attack the poor and desperate and you notice them and complain about them because of their skin color.

Criminal gangs in the USA have swelled to an estimated 1 million members responsible for up to 80% of crimes in communities across the nation, according to a gang threat assessment compiled by federal officials.
The major findings in a report by the Justice Department's National Gang Intelligence Center, which has not been publicly released, conclude gangs are the "primary retail-level distributors of most illicit drugs" and several are "capable" of competing with major U.S.-based Mexican drug-trafficking organizations.

And, as for calling me a bigot, I'll just have to refer you to my many Black, Asian, Hispanic, and Native American coworkers and close friends from over the years who would all be more than happy to vouch for whether I have any bigot in me at all. I believe you'll find the answer a resounding "NO" after speaking with them. Funny as this may sound to you in your black-and-white view of the world, they, too, want the laws of the land enforced, and not sacrificed for expediency. As for your weak point about why illegals aren't all in prison, well, that's pretty poor logic. In point of fact, the illegals that are busted for other crimes do go to jail and prison, and when done with their sentences for those crimes, are often remanded over to the feds for another detention leading to deportation. In the case of workplace raids, which are finally having a nice effect on employers nationwide, busted illegals go to detention centers and are processed and either jailed for identity theft or deported, or both. Multiple crossers of the border who keep getting sent back, only to re-cross again, eventually reach that one crossing where the authorities decide "enough is enough," and they are then jailed, as well. Along some stretches of the southern U.S. border, you'd have to get nabbed over 10 times before you'll finally be formally charged with illegal crossing. That needs to be a formal charge EACH AND EVERY TIME, with progressively harsher jail and prison stretches each time. So, you see, they do go to jail because what they are doing is illegal. Now, we just need local, county, and state police forces to get 287(g) training and grants so they can pick them up for nothing more than being here illegally, detain them, and watch the feds fast-track them OUTTA HERE!

Sorry for your misunderstandings of facts. As for immigration levels, all I've ever advocated is LOWER levels of LEGAL immigration and ELIMINATION of ILLEGAL immigration. Not an end to immigration altogether! Are you kidding me? An end to illegal immigration and an end to all of the fraudulent misuse of the legal immigration system would fix our problem of unemployment and underemployment of U.S. citizens. Plenty of foreigners would still be here and would be welcome. And plenty more would still be coming and would also be welcomed. But companies would be accountable for doing what the banks in the AP article appear to be doing. Companies would be liable for misrepresentations like those of Bill Gates, who keeps calling for unlimited H1-B visas. And Homeland Security would really take care of the ports and borders, without being subverted by Washington bureaucrats and ethnocentric interest groups.

For those who don't have a problem with "LEGAL" immigration because you think it's all on the up-and-up...this just hit the AP wire:
"AP Investigation: Banks sought foreign workers
By FRANK BASS and RITA BEAMISH
Associated Press Writers
SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) -- Banks collecting billions of dollars in federal bailout money sought government permission to bring thousands of foreign workers to the U.S. for high-paying jobs, according to an Associated Press review of visa applications.
The dozen banks receiving the biggest rescue packages, totaling more than $150 billion, requested visas for more than 21,800 foreign workers over the past six years for positions that included senior vice presidents, corporate lawyers, junior investment analysts and human resources specialists. The average annual salary for those jobs was $90,721, nearly twice the median income for all American households.
The figures are significant because they show that the bailed-out banks, being kept afloat with U.S. taxpayer money, actively sought to hire foreign workers instead of American workers. As the economic collapse worsened last year - with huge numbers of bank employees laid off - the numbers of visas sought by the dozen banks in AP's analysis increased by nearly one-third, from 3,258 in fiscal 2007 to 4,163 in fiscal 2008."

Here is the problem with what you are saying. First, no amount of laws or ranting is going to stop immigration. China built a wall that can be seen from space to stop immigration: It didn't work.
Second, there are no official crime statistics that support any of what you are saying except for the documentation part. This is the same kind of conjured crime placed on Jews in Germany. You see Jews were seen to be immigrants, their loyalty questioned, so they had to carry papers. If you didn't have papers you were a criminal.
Third, if they are illegal immigrants then why aren't they tried in court and sent to prison. It seems to me that the fact is that they are detained and then deported because they can immigrate they just haven't followed the proper red tape. So, in effect your making often times illiterate people criminals because they haven't traveled to their nearest American consulate to fill out a form they can't read.
So, in conclusion you support policies that mimic the policies of Nazi Germany.

And the criminal end of this is not about saying they're all criminals...how did you infer that as my intent? I'm simply saying that when even one illegal commits any crime that harms a person who is here legally, that illegal never should have been there and that crime never should have victimized that legal resident or citizen. By extension, when you look at the massive numbers of illegal alien crime upon each other and upon U.S. citizens, it's obvious it's just another tax on our police, sheriff's departments, state patrols, district attorneys, public defenders, court translators, judges, juries, jailers, support staff, prison guards, and anyone else who has to deal with this wave of crime which shouldn't even be within these borders to begin with. Period.

Taxes aren't the issue...I've never been one to use that argument, because working illegals are generally paying some taxes. But working and paying taxes DON'T MATTER; THESE PEOPLE ARE ILLEGALLY HERE AND ILLEGALLY TAXING THE SYSTEM MORE THAN THE SYSTEM IS TAXING THEM!

I am sure there is also a correlation between mental illness and criminal behavior as well as socioeconomic status. For example, all the Republicans I know are either drug addicts, homosexuals or delusion-ally paranoid. However, that does not mean I treat every Republican like they are: I treat them as the individual each one is. That's what Liberty means or have you forgotten? "The man who would sacrifice his freedom for security deserves neither."
IMMIGRANTS PAY SALES AND PROPERTY TAXES(renters) , so if you want to solve the issue then maybe we should dump income taxes altogether for gas, sales and property taxes.

And we don't need a replacement population for babyboomers. Yes, means testing for Social Security benefits is a way of reducing federal payouts for those whose good fortune and hard work in this country have put them well above the baseline level of existence here. They should be happy to know that Social Security would have been happy to help them if tragedy had befallen them, but fortunately for them, they've reached their golden years relatively unscathed and should thank the heavens for that and let their SS money go to those who are truly needy. I know this runs contrary to the fiber of the "more-me-now" generation of boomers, but too bad. If you're sitting pretty, bully for you. Too many are not, and the SSA is there for them. You solved your own puzzle with the tractor analogy. Massive increases in efficiency ensure that we will not need such a replacement population for the boomers; in addition, many of them will work later than ever due to the last few years of major economic uncertainty, anyway.

And more still on illegal alien crime: "King also reports eight American children are victims of sexual abuse by illegal aliens every day – a total of 2,920 annually.
Based on a one-year in-depth study, Deborah Schurman-Kauflin of the Violent Crimes Institute of Atlanta estimates there are about 240,000 illegal immigrant sex offenders in the United States who have had an average of four victims each. She analyzed 1,500 cases from January 1999 through April 2006 that included serial rapes, serial murders, sexual homicides and child molestation committed by illegal immigrants.
As the number of illegal aliens in the U.S. increases, so does the number of American victims.
According to Edwin Rubenstien, president of ESR Research Economic Consultants, in Indianapolis in 1980, federal and state correctional facilities held fewer than 9,000 criminal aliens. But at the end of 2003, approximately 267,000 illegal aliens were incarcerated in all U.S. jails and prisons.
While the federal government doesn't track illegal alien murders, illegal alien rapes or illegal alien drunk driving deaths, it has studied illegal aliens incarcerated in U.S. prisons.
In April 2005, the Government Accountability Office released a report on a study of 55,322 illegal aliens incarcerated in federal, state, and local facilities during 2003. It found the following:
The 55,322 illegal aliens studied represented a total of 459,614 arrests – some eight arrests per illegal alien;
Their arrests represented a total of about 700,000 criminal offenses – some 13 offenses per illegal alien;
36 percent had been arrested at least five times before.
"While the vast majority of illegal aliens are decent people who work hard and are only trying to make a better life for themselves and their families, (something you or I would probably do if we were in their place), it is also a fact that a disproportionately high percentage of illegal aliens are criminals and sexual predators," states Peter Wagner, author of a new report called "The Dark Side of Illegal Immigration." "That is part of the dark side of illegal immigration and when we allow the 'good' in we get the 'bad' along with them. The question is, how much 'bad' is acceptable and at what price?"

Continuing the crime stuff on illegal aliens: "But the carnage wrought by illegal alien murderers represents only a fraction of the pool of blood spilled by American citizens as a result of an open border and un-enforced immigration laws.
While King reports 12 Americans are murdered daily by illegal aliens, he says 13 are killed by drunk illegal alien drivers – for another annual death toll of 4,745. That's 23,725 since Sept. 11, 2001.
While no one – in or out of government – tracks all U.S. accidents caused by illegal aliens, the statistical and anecdotal evidence suggests many of last year's 42,636 road deaths involved illegal aliens.
A report by the AAA Foundation for Traffic Study found 20 percent of fatal accidents involve at least one driver who lacks a valid license. In California, another study showed that those who have never held a valid license are about five times more likely to be involved in a fatal road accident than licensed drivers.
Statistically, that makes them an even greater danger on the road than drivers whose licenses have been suspended or revoked – and nearly as dangerous as drunk drivers."

Some crime statistics on illegal aliens:
Illegal aliens murder 12 Americans daily
Death toll in 2006 far overshadows total U.S. soldiers killed in Iraq, Afghanistan
November 28, 2006
By Joseph Farah
© 2009 WorldNetDaily.com
While the military "quagmire" in Iraq was said to tip the scales of power in the U.S. midterm elections, most Americans have no idea more of their fellow citizens – men, women and children – were murdered this year by illegal aliens than the combined death toll of U.S. troops in Iraq and Afghanistan since those military campaigns began.
Though no federal statistics are kept on murders or any other crimes committed by illegal aliens, a number of groups have produced estimates based on data collected from prisons, news reports and independent research.
Twelve Americans are murdered every day by illegal aliens, according to statistics released by Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa. If those numbers are correct, it translates to 4,380 Americans murdered annually by illegal aliens. That's 21,900 since Sept. 11, 2001.
Total U.S. troop deaths in Iraq as of last week were reported at 2,863. Total U.S. troop deaths in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Uzbekistan during the five years of the Afghan campaign are currently at 289, according to the Department of Defense.

Speaking as a long time resident of Walworth County I am predicting that the problem of local business hiring federal criminals will just increase until something is done by regular citizens as our state and local governments will simply pass things off as a Federal problem not the states. However the impact is state and most importantly local. I have seen the lines of peoples in the banks and post offices every Friday buying their money orders to 'send home' and the local factories of Darien seemingly hiring although you will never see a help wanted ad. New parking lots have been built for all the 'new' jobs and now more building for an addition? Delaven schools have failed the 'no child left behind' act and at one point it was estimated that almost 40% of the schools children needed assistance not only speaking english but with all other aspects of going to school. But the worst had to be the mass murder of women and children by a known 'Federal criminal' who had been in trouble with the local law inforcement several times before.--I say this to those who just love to throw the race card at others that do not agree - pay for their presence yourself! Also to the 'our family were hated immigrants at one time too' folks, it does not apply to todays times and problems. This country has some very serious issues and we just plain can't afford those who come here and stay illegally plus most do NOT seem to be able to support themselves and their children. We have been to many other states where it's been so refreshing to see what life used to be like in this area rather than the boarder town situation that it's become. What's our solution? After 50 years + living here we are planning to leave as we don't believe the situation will change and we are very concerned for our safety plus the very real threat of identity theft. And, just one more thing, what if very real terriorists wanted to use Mexican nationals to poison our food supplies in the fields, factories& restaurants? Could they be stopped? In time? Hopefully we will never have to find out.

Iceman, while I understand your sense of outrage it seems to me to be a bit misplaced. First, could you point me to some actual crime statistics, because most of your serial killers and rapist seem to me to be white guys. Its "Going Postal", not "Going Mexican". Second, immigrants are necessary to our economy because the baby boomers will soon be selling their homes and stocks for retirement. We don't have a replacement population for them. They are going to collect social security and we don't have enough people replacing them. So, unless your going to means test social security, how are you going to solve this problem?
So, you can rant all you want it isn't going to change that reality. What your really complaining about is the fact that wages for labor have dropped out. Well, I find it interesting because the very first product built at the GM factory was a tractor. A device that replaced thousands of paid laborers.
The only thing that will help people is a good education in one of the basic sciences or a language. We need to look at improving the quality of education and access to it in this country.

Marymac brings up a great point. Mexico's SECOND LEADING SOURCE OF INCOME AFTER OIL IS...MONEY BEING SENT BACK FROM THEIR CITIZENS THAT ARE HERE IN THE U.S.!! If your country is that dependent on illegals (and legals) in another country to send cash home, you need to fail as a country and start over with better rules and less corruption. I wish illegals coming here would put half as much activism to work in their own countries of origin as they do to come here.

Their Action Center makes it so easy to send faxes and emails to your representatives in Congress and your President to let them know what you think of how the U.S. coddles illegal aliens and allows fraud to dictate legal immigration policy. For more on the carnage that illegals are racking up around the country as they commit countless crimes, go to www.outragedpatriots.com. You'll see there that your little Consulate visit in Janesville has made the news worldwide. Plenty of good commentary (and some not so good), and also some great links to other ways to help. Some links go too far with the racial end of things, so I don't think everything there is worthwhile. But checking the site every few days reminds me that over 20 Americans are killed / assaulted / raped / sexually assaulted by ILLEGAL ALIENS EVERY DAY!! OK, really one more thing... the article in the paper today: "Janesville’s unemployment rate was the highest in the state last month, and that probably doesn’t include all the GM workers laid off in December. Janesville’s unadjusted unemployment rate was 8.1 percent in December, up from 7.4 percent in November, the state reported Thursday." ........Really says it all, I think, with regard to this country continuing to allow ILLEGAL and LEGAL immigration to continue to skyrocket! You can't have LEGALS AND ILLEGALS from other countries DROPPING THE BOTTOM out of the wage/benefit scale for all workers, and then at the same time have all the WALL STREET ELITISTS/CORPORATE POWERBROKERS/CORRUPT GOVERNMENT CRONIES taking the top end of the salary/benefit scale to the MOON, and expect to survive as a republic. One last thing before I head out for a few hours...don't any of you believe that LEGAL immigration is some foolproof setup, either. Massive amounts of Visa fraud, corporate fraud, identity fraud, and application fraud currently plague that system. Examples: An African refugee visa program that the feds eventually admitted probably contained over 80% applicants who couldn't really verify that they EVEN BELONGED TO THE PERSECUTED TRIBE that was being given the visas...it was just "give 'em all visas and hope for the best." Did you know that 8 out of 10 of the corporations sponsoring the most H1-B Visas for supposed "high-tech" skilled workers ARE OUTSOURCING COMPANIES FROM INDIA!?!?!? And did you know that one of them just got busted for inflating applicants' qualifications with fake college degrees, inflated degrees, and bogus front firms where the applicants supposedly received lots of high-tech "experience?" It is suspected that they all do the same thing, but American companies like Microsoft and 3M love it because they can pay 40-60 cents on the dollar for this foreign help, and the American computer engineer or programmer ends up underemployed or unemployed. Did you know that many foreign students on F-1 student visas OVERSTAY their visas and TAKE UNAUTHORIZED EMPLOYMENT while here? So, please, make sure that if you want to argue this topic, remember we need to GET RID OF ALL ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION, and CUT WAY DOWN on LEGAL IMMIGRATION FRAUD in the 20-plus current work visa programs that we already have. We are the most generous country for LEGAL immigration (and ILLEGAL immigration, too, obviously), but even with LEGAL programs, our generosity has been ABUSED BADLY!

(608) 755-2255 is the number to call the Janesville Police Department and let them know you'd like them to apply for "287(G) GRANT and TRAINING" and training for their officers to learn immigration laws and enforce them as "deputies" for federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The feds do the training and then the city gets expedited services from the feds when they detain illegals. Again, be polite and let them know you appreciate all they already do, but that increased enforcement of immigration crimes has an exponential elimination effect on other crimes in the community, and often prompts many illegal to leave the area, knowing the feds with finally bother with them if Janesville P.D. gets ahold of them. SO GET YOUR LITTLE RACE CARD OUT OF HERE! They are committing a crime when they take unauthorized work here. They are committing a crime when they support the market for fake documents such as bogus Social Security cards and bogus perm. res. cards. They are committing a crime when they work under someone else's Social Security number...oh, yeah, a FELONY crime. They are committing a crime when they cross to this country "just in time" to have an anchor baby in one of our fine hospitals, furthering the ABSOLUTE MISINTERPRETATION OF THE 14th AMENDMENT which mistakenly gives birthright citizenship to their legions of little ones. They are committing a crime when they walk their illegal butts brazenly into any government or agency office and demand welfare and food stamps for their little anchor babies, since again, as illegal aliens, they shouldn't be here sucking up aid. They are committing a crime when they take thousands of dollars in healthcare from the emergency rooms and hospitals and clinics and don't PAY A SINGLE DIME FOR ANY OF IT, knowing they'll be out of their current rental when all the legal notices come in. They are committing a crime when they open bank accounts in the country and sign documents saying they are legally in the U.S. They are committing a crime when they sign any document that calls for a statement of being here legally. SO, PLEASE STOP HELPING THEM AND START HURTING THEM BY CALLING IN ALL OF THEIR EMPLOYERS THAT YOU COME ACROSS IN THEIR RECORDS. Roseboo, the actual correct terminology is "illegal aliens." That's the terminology in all the federal statutes and literature on the subject. "Undocumented" is a major misnomer, due to the simple fact that these illegal aliens have TONS of documents: birth certificates from foreign countries, marriage certificates from foreign countries, matricula consular cards, federal electoral cards, and many others. Their problem is, all those documents don't make them LEGAL, only ILLEGAL.

Officer Sullivan, you are a fool. To hear the comment, "It's just an I.D." come out of the mouth of a sworn officer of the law is the height of absurdity. That "just an I.D." those illegals are getting makes it EASIER FOR THEM TO CONTINUE TO DEFY FEDERAL LAW!! I know you're just a local police, but that does not make it right for you to look the other way as any level of law in this country is broken and abused. I sure hope you, Officer Sullivan, are going to approach your chief this week with the wonderful idea of Janesville P.D. applying for 287(g) grant and training from the federal government (I.C.E.) to train some of your officers in combating illegal immigration with arrest/detain rights and fast-track elimination of the illegals by the feds when your department catches them. I assume you will get on that paperwork this week. Just as you would "call in" a car you pulled over with Osama bin Laden and bombs inside, you sure had better start seeing the fraud and population bomb that illegals represent in your community. Thousands of Americans are walking around everyday with their Social Security numbers and those of their minor children being illegally stolen and used by illegals all over the country to work and make bank accounts and get other services. Maybe if one of them gets ahold of your SSN, you'll see the problem of FELONY MISUSE OF A SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER as it actually is, a CRIME! Mikki- “So we haven't helped out Mexico? Where did most of the US jobs go to, anyway?
Sorry, the USA has a hard enough time helping itself and it's own citizens. I say we need to take care of ourselves, first.”
If you’re implying “we” (the US government?) have been helping Mexico by sending unskilled manufacturing jobs abroad, I think you may be a bit confused. It is quite true that many US companies send their manufacturing to developing countries, but I’m pretty sure their aim is to boost profit margins by exploiting unregulated workforces—not so much to help their governments. “Free Market”, eh?

Just curious, which of your jobs have “they” taken from you?
SwissChick-you should reread the last line of your rant about people working under the table. It makes sense. If we’re gonna cry about people not paying taxes, we can start with the large population of our “natives”. I know more than enough construction workers just in Janesville that work for cash all winter while claiming unemployment—White Janesvillians, born n’ raised. Also, I’m pretty sure you’re not alone in being the descendant of immigrants—and for some reason many of us think our ancestors were somehow morally superior… they would never come here “illegally”. In a sense, you’re comparing apples and oranges. Many Europeans emigrated in a time period where immigration (naturalization) requirements were very lax to say the least. Through most of the 1800s, there were no legitimate requirements for Europeans—“documentation” (ie visa, even a passport) was not even required for entry before the 1921 with the Emergency Quota Act (of course Japanese and Chinese and many others were deemed inferior races far earlier).
I’d also like to add; the last time I looked at a map, I didn’t see any European country sharing a border with us. Had Europeans faced today’s regulations, and the opportunity to just cross a border rather than an ocean, we might almost have a basis for comparison. Different time period, different regulations, different geographic location. Same respective stereotyping, same nativism, xenophobia as our European ancestors had to deal with. Our ancestors would be proud.

Techmasterflex - Most people don't have a problem with those who are here legally. It's the illegals who put a tremendous burden on tax payers, esp in smaller communities, utilizing govenment services that they are not entitled to (I would never presume to go to Mexico and expect even a fraction of what we simply hand out to anybody here). It's a prejuded assumption on your part to imply that all who are commenting here in opposition are, in fact, "white." And ummm, I believe the correct term is, European American.

Sounds good to me tallman. Boarder patrol isn't cheap. If a terrorist gets in and takes out a couple of buildings, then it would help stimulate the construction business.

Heck lets get rid of the laws that create the "Illegal" status, simply do away with immigration laws for all that want to "Flock" into the USA. Lets set up foreign aides for every foreign country in the world to help them with whatever they want or need, at all the community centers and job centers all across the great USA. Then make sure that we have teachers in all public schools to speak every language so that all the children of those who "flock" here as they then will not be illegal so we would have the obligation of teaching those too in their language and the beat would go on and on. Yeah, that would fix this whole problem to just get rid of being illegal by eliminating the boarder business all together. All fixed, right?

Well, I probably shouldn`t even get started on this.. BUT- this is wrong.. Again, let`s just make it as easy as possible for immigrants to "flock" here (just as the Gazette stated about flocking to the Job Center)..Oh, and do you know that as an American U. S. citizen, that if you go to Mexico you have ZERO help available to you..Can`t even buy land.. Gosh, I wish I had this email that was sent a while ago about all this..Would put it into perspective for some..

techmasterflex, I'm glad you introduced some historical context to this issue. Along with the Irish in the mid-1800's, the Germans and Scandinavians in the late 1800's, we can't forget how the Italians were considered to be similar threats in the early 1900's. Right now it seems to be the Latinos' turn to be tarred and feathered. The 'good' immigrants, like the Pilgrims and other Anglo-Saxons, didn't steal jobs when they came over here, they just stole the land! Nativism becomes more rampant during periods of economic turmoil. If everything were seashells and balloons right now, this wouldn't even be a discussion thread.

It's also extremely ignorant to speak of things that you are uneducated about. If you are still calling them "illegals" then you have no right to speak about it. Whether they are here on documented or undocumented status, they are still people. I think it's great that BHCCU and the YWCA are helping out--I was also asked to help out because I speak Spanish. It shows that people are making an effort to help them so that it doesn't have to be difficult for them to live her OR go back to their homes. It's 2009--are we really still living in a time where we assume one race is bad in its' entirity? Yes, there are some unfortunate circumstances that come up; BUT, have we looked at other races in this town, ALL races, who have drug problems, drinking problems, domestic abuse, etc.? If we're going to blame our economy, taxes, and other numerous issues on Latinos then we have more of a problem to look at. Have your opinions, but do not be ignorant. Some of the comments on here embarass me...to even say I live in this city/state/country. I work in a position that works very closely with Latino families--I would not have a job without this diversity. ALSO--the families would not have my support or help of education to want to better themselves for their families and children. We work together to make things work. Try understanding the issues instead of coming at the issue with ignornace and ill-mannered ways.

My grandparents came over on the boat from Germany because they had a bad feeling before WWI. They presented themselves at Ellis Island with the proper documentation and settled in to this country learning the language (although they still spoke German at home), and working hard at starting in a new country making a living at farming. When the appropriate time came, they became citizens. Anything sound wrong about the way they did things??

Many times that is why illegals work for farmers, construction, etc because they are hired for minimum or less wages and then there are no money trails or hiring paperwork. Both parties win that way!!! Then they can go in for food stamps, school aide programs, social services all because they can show little to no incomes. But, then get behind some of the illegals at the stores to buy neccessities for which there is no aide and they have rolls of cash to pay with. Hmmmmm I wonder how that happens as I am sure if they don't have a bank account then they don't go in and cash paychecks unless it's a check cashing place with no record. They aren't using credit cards, or writing checks off an account. Remember I am speaking only of illegals as they don't want any paper trail or record of any kind.

Sorry, the USA has a hard enough time helping itself and it's own citizens. I say we need to take care of ourselves, first.
Then we can take care of those that break our laws.

I like being narrow minded, too. Takes confusion out of my life. But I still have to admire someone that leaves their homes, family, and risks their life by sneaking over the border at night and in car trunks to live with us in OUR country (whoever WE are?). Makes me think we don't have it so bad compared to other folks elsewhere. There really is no logical reason why we can't help Mexico more to increase their standard of living, so people don't feel like the have to leave their own country. Most Mexicans are Catholic, so that's not an issue. They work pretty hard from what I've seen , so no issue there. What's the issue? Let's build friendly relationships with Mexican partners, instead of fences along our border. Then this illegal alien issue will go away.

People that are taking advantage of this program are more than likely permanent resident aliens. That means that they are in this country legally and pay taxes. Another thing, financial institutions cannot open accounts for illegals. Everyone that opens an account has to go through a screening process. Maybe people should get the facts before jumping to conclusions. If you boycott business because of this it just shows how narrow minded people really are.

If they work, they pay taxes. If they own a home, they pay taxes. If they rent, they are paying taxes. If they buy gas, they pay taxes. If they drink alcohol or smoke cigarettes, they pay taxes. If they buy food or other items, they pay taxes. I am confused as to what taxes some of you say they are not paying.

It very sure is the local law enforcement duty to verify legal status, or did they skip the part of their swearing in that states they will enforce the laws of the state of wisconsin, and the constitution of the United States? If these Mexicans are not here legally then they have violated the laws and the constitution. They are ILLEGAL Immigrants, what part of ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT supercedes the State, Federal laws and the Constitution of the United States of America??? Boycot all agencies that support these ILEGAL IMMIGANTS. Otherwise we are cherry picking what laws we are enforcing. It has been shown by studies over and over that all these illegal immigrants are draining our social services programs, schools, court systems, jails, prisons, and taking all the freebies they can while working for cash which they don't report. I am not against those that come to this country legally!!!!!

While they were there getting the Mexican passports, (which means they are citizens of Mexico), it would have been interesting to see thier papers to show that they are here legally. They could have had immigration agents at the door allowing only those that are allowed here to do their business with the Mexican consulate.
