Edgerton High’s boys basketball team lined up a victory Thursday night in battle of Rock Valley Conference contenders.
The Crimson Tide, No. 9 in the AP Division 2 state ratings, went to 10-1 for the season by making 10 of 14 free throws in the fourth quarter to nail down a 46-37 win at Brodhead
That snapped the Cardinals’ seven-game winning streak, but they stayed atop the conference’s South Division 5-4. Edgerton improved to 6-1 in the North Division to remain a game behind first-place East Troy (8-0) in the loss column.
Brodhead (8-5), which knocked off Edgerton’s state-rated team in a major upset a year ago, again the Crimson Tide on the run. The Cardinals led 14-8 after the first quarter and 20-19 at halftime, but then Bryan Gregory took charge.
Gregory, the conference scoring leader, got 18 of his 22 points in the second half, to put Edgerton on top for good. The 6-4 senior had an eight-point third quarter to help the Tide grab an 30-29 edge, which it never relinquished, and he went 4-for-4 on free throws in a 10-point final period.
Ryan Miller led Brodhead with 13 points before fouling out. Jacob Cole scored 11 for the Cardinals, by 6-9 sophomore center J.J. Panoske was held to nine.
