— The Janesville Bluebirds keep rolling along.

Janesville’s high school co-op boys hockey team improved to 10-3 with a 7-0 nonconference victory over visiting Milwaukee Marquette here Thursday night.

Junior forward Ryan Shelton and senior forward Logan Lemirande each had two goals, while senior goalie David Jacobson stopped 13 shots for the shutout.

“We outshot them early, 22-7, but David made four real big saves for us in that time,” Bluebird coach John Mauermann said. “He had to come up big time. It easily could have been a 3-3 game without David.”

Instead, Janesville had a 3-0 lead going into the final period. Danny Folker and Shelton scored in the first period, and Lemirande had his first goal in the second on a power play to give the Bluebirds some breathing room.

Two short-handed goals highlighted the Bluebirds’ four-goal third period. After Zach Bayreuther tapped in a rebound on a power play to open the third period, Lemirande scored his second goal by going around the net and into the slot before firing home a goal.

Then, with the Bluebirds shorthanded, Folker found Ross Mauermann and the senior captain hit the top corner of the net to make it 6-0. Shelton completed his two-goal night and the game’s scoring with another shorthanded goal 90 seconds later.

The Bluebirds return to Big Eight action Saturday with a 5:30 p.m. game at the Janesville Ice Skating Center. Then Verona comes to town for an 8 o’clock game Monday in what is expected to be a battle for first place.

“We’re getting production out of all three lines,” John Mauermann said. “That’s great to see. Ryan Shelton, Joe Allen and Sly Flynn have been playing well, but their line hasn’t been able to put the puck past the goalie. Tonight they finally got something to show for it.”

someone should inform the writers of these stories that they should, at the end of their story, let the folks know when and where and what time the next game is for the team they are writing about. that should be for every sports story so the casual reader can make plans to see the games. that is the best way to get the folks to attend the games, especially in a hockey arena that can use the attendance numbers.
