Unemployment numbers increase
Wisconsin's unemployment rate climbs in December. Few surprises in the latest Department of Workforce Development report.
With the recent manufacturing lay-offs, particularly in the automotive industry, the Janesville metropolitan area realizes the highest unemployment rate in the state at 8.1%. The number isn't up much from the month before, less than 1%. It is 3% higher than a year ago. DWD Secretary Roberta Gassman says the global economic crisis and prolonged national recession continues to impact Wisconsin's communities.
Wisconsin's unemployment rate for December is 5.5%, and national average is 7.1%.
