Middleton girls grab undisputed Big Eight lead

Emily Newman led the way with 15 points as sixth-ranked Middleton (12-1, 10-1) outlasted Verona, 48-42, Tuesday night to gain sole possession of first place in the Big Eight Conference girls basketball race.

Verona (10-3, 9-2) fell into second, despite 16 points from Leslie Schaefer and 15 from Aly Bucierka.

Makailah Dyer led all scorers with 27 points for East.
