The Janesville School Board decides that if it requires teachers and administrators to demonstrate professional behavior, the school board should lead by example.

Commissioner Kevin Murray says he agrees with the intent of the plan, but he doesn't think an oath of office needs to be re-created in order for the school board to adopt the district's core values. Commissioner Tim Cullen says someone can sign a paper saying they'll be honest and not live an honest life. At a presentation at Tuesday's meeting, Commissioner Peggy Sheridan told her colleagues the district's core values of respect, caring, honesty, cooperation and responsibility aren't always demonstrated by the school board.

Board members questioned the best way to enforce the behavioral standards, and whether it should be put into writing. The board did not make a formal decision about those details.
