Elkhorn nips Milton boys; Jefferson falls, 99-96, in triple overtime
Elkhorn High’s boys basketball team made it happen at the free-throw line when it mattered most Tuesday night.
The Elks made 12 of 14 free throws for all of their fourth-quarter scoring as they pulled out a 51-46 nonconference win at Milton.
In bouncing back from Saturday’s loss at Madison Edgewood, the Elks pushed their season record to 10-1, while Milton fell to 5-5.
The Red Hawks overcame a 29-22 halftime deficit to force a 39-39 tie at the outset of the fourth quarter, but Elkhorn retaliated with its free throws.
Max Findreng led Elkhorn with 18 points, and teammate Eric Bryson added 14. Mason Walters had a game-high 20 for Milton.

n Waterford 99, Jefferson 96—The host Eagles (6-6) couldn’t deny Waterford (7-5) in a wild, triple-overtime nonconference thriller.
The Wolverines (7-4) made the tying shots in regulation and the first two overtimes to stay alive. In the third OT, Waterford led 98-96 when Joe Surino made one of two free throws with six seconds remaining to seal the victory.
Jefferson’s three-point attempt to tie it missed from halfcourt.
Waterford’s Beau Steffens sank a game-tying jumper at the buzzer to send the game into the first OT. Brent Kuschewski sank a three-point basket with three seconds remaining to give Waterford life for the second OT, and Kuschewski hit a floater with three seconds remaining to send the game into the third overtime.
Tyler Tomczak did his best to keep Jefferson alive, scoring 19 of his 26 points in the three overtimes, including nine points in the first OT.
Trevor Probst added 22 points for Jefferson, Ramsey Tabor posted 15, Sam Nevins and Luis Torres scored 12 apiece.
Kuschewski scored 26 points to lead Waterford, while Steffens added 24 and Brent Plautz got 15.
