WCLO's Steve Benton reports on the retirement of Chief Neil Mahan

RSS

— Neil Mahan came to Janesville as police chief nearly five years ago, and he had to make some adjustments. They included selling horses and getting used to a slower pace of life. Soon he'll be returning to the Fresno and Bakersfield California area to a mountain ranch and family.

As far as highlights during his nearly five year watch in Janesville, he lists the solving of an ongoing serial rape case and the shutting down of a brothel.

He says there is work yet to be done, including dealing with an increase in gang activity and illegal drugs, including heroin. He says several people within the police department are qualified to take over, but he's making no recommendations.

A retirement reception will be held Thursday from 5 pm to 8 pm at Rotary Gardens.
