Delavan approves $2.4 million water treatment plant
DELAVAN The Delavan City Council on Monday unanimously approved a $2.4 million bid for a new water treatment plant on the east side of Lake Comus.
The plant, located on the north side of Elmhurst Avenue, will improve the reliability of water service in the city during peak demands in the summer, said Utility Director Barb Stebnitz. It will also give the city more flexibility for maintenance projects, she said.
Work will begin any day on a well at the same location. Work on the new plant should start in about six weeks, Stebnitz said. The new plant will go online in 2010, she said.
The plant will have an initial treatment capacity of 500 to 1,000 gallons per minute and will be built so that in can be expanded to 2,000 gallons per minute.
The city already has four wells and two treatment facilities, Utility Manager Jim Piester said.
The council awarded the bid to Miron Construction, Neenah. The city will pay for the project with a low cost loan through the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, Stebnitz said.
