— The Janesville Bluebirds found their scoring touch with a 5-1 victory over Neenah in nonconference high school hockey Saturday.

The victory left the Bluebirds 1-1 on their Fox River Valley road trip. Janesville lost, 3-1, to Fond du Lac on Friday.

“It was a disappointing loss on Friday,” Janesville coach John Mauermann said. “We’ve been having trouble scoring lately.”

The scoring drought ended with Derek Mussey and Logan Lemirande giving the Bluebirds a 2-0 first-period lead over Neenah. Mussey added a power play goal at 3 minutes, 50 seconds of the second period and Ross Mauermann scored a short-handed goal at 10:52 to give Janesville a welcome and comfortable 4-0 lead.

“It was nice to sit back and look at the board and see a 4-goal lead,” Mauermann said.

Ross Mauermann added the Bluebirds’ final goal unassisted at 13:40 of the third.

Janesville (8-3) will host Arrowhead at 8 p.m. this Tuesday.

Nonetheless the TEAM played well Saturday against Neenah. Big games all this week. Pack the rink for some great action.

A few kids have made some really poor personal decisions during the season and have had to miss a few games.

Where are some of the other "big" names on the hockey team? Are they not playing or were they just not part of the story today?
