Hot-shooting L-Cats upset Lakeside
Lake Mills High School’s boys basketball team stole a page out of Lakeside Lutheran’s playbook Thursday night.
With a hot-shooting style that’s so typical of Lakeside, the L-Cats raced to a 75-62 victory over the Warriors in a major Capitol Conference upset.
In breaking Lakeside’s seven-game win streak, Lake Mills (7-4) dropped the state’s ninth-ranked Division 2 team to 10-2 for the season. Lakeside’s only previous loss was to third-ranked and unbeaten Waupun.
Lake Mills also pulled within a half-game of the first-place Warriors (4-1) at 3-1 in the Capitol North race.
Beau Hering and Travis Meyer led the L-Cats’ surge with 20 and 18 points, respectively, and Lake Mills used six three-point goals to combat Lakeside’s eight.
Meyer hit two quick three-pointers in sparking Lake Mills to 19-9 lead. He also scored the first seven points of the third quarter to give the L-Cats a 40-29 lead after they had wiped out Lakeside’s 29-27 edge by scoring the last six points of the first half.
Lake Mills also got 15 points from Jake Heinz and 10 from Nick Dunkleberger to offset Justin Eternick’s 20 and Riley Lauth’s 16 for Lakeside.
