Brodhead High found itself locked in a battle for one quarter Thursday night berfore pulling away to earn a 52-33 victory over Edgerton in Rock Valley girls basketball.
It was a key win for Brodhead (8-3, 7-1), which took advantage of Orfordville Parkview’s setback at McFarland to pull even with the first-place Vikings (12-2, 9-1) in the South Division loss column. The Cardinals can move even close to a first-place tie at home tonight against Palmyra-Eagle.
Edgerton (5-8, 4-5) led the Cardinals, 19-18, after the first quarter. Brodhead limited the Crimson Tide to 14 points the rest of the game.
The Cardinals also got a boost from Kristen Ruchti, who hit a buzzer-beater to end the first half and give her team a 26-22- lead. She finished with a team-high 15 points and was the only Brodhead player in double figures.
Meggie Schmidt had 14 points to lead Edgerton.

n Big Foot 59, Evansville 39—Jordyn Courier scored eight of her game-high 16 points in the second quarter and nine in the third quarter as the Chiefs (5-5, 5-4) pulled away from the Blue Devils (1-10, 1-7) in a Rock Valley crossover game.
Sydney Westrick and Calie Reese scored 11 points apiece for Evansville.

n Jefferson 69, Clinton 40—The host Eagles (8-3, 8-1) struck quickly and thoroughly to protect their lead in the Rock Valley North.
Liz Althoff scored a game-high 19 points for Clinton (5-6, 4-5), but Jefferson led 19-3 after the first quarter and was never threatened.
Lindsay Frank and Jesssica Splittgerber led Jefferson with 17 and 16 points, respectively.

n East Troy 57, Palmyra-Eagle 34—East Troy (2-11, 2-7) rallied from a first-quarter deficit to knock off the visiting Panthers (3-10, 2-7) in a Rock Valley crossover game.
Palmyra-Eagle led 17-13 after the first period, but the Trojans were up 26-21 at halftime and put the game out of reach in a 17-4 third quarter.
Caitlin Dolan led East Troy with 17 points, and Megan Hack scored 15 for the Panthers.
