Whitewater women surge past Platteville

WHITEWATER — UW-Whitewater bounced back from a 10-point first-half deficit to prevail, 76-62, over UW-Platteville in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women’s basketball here Wednesday night.

The No. 3 Warhawks (16-1, 7-1) used a 20-6 run through the final nine minutes of the first half to erase a 26-16 deficit for a 36-32 halftime lead. They opened the second half with a 13-0 run to put the Pioneers’ upset bid to bed.

Dana Thompson and Tiffany Morton scored 12 points apiece for Whitewater, while teammate Heidi Sonntag added 11 points. Platteville (5-11, 2-6) made just 24 of 64 field-goal attempts.

Whitewater hosts UW-Superior at 3 p.m. Saturday.
