Edgerton man dies after being hit by a truck
FULTON TOWNSHIP The Wisconsin State Patrol is reconstructing the crash scene that left a 33-year-old Edgerton man dead Wednesday night.
Roger L. Knitter, 33, of Edgerton, was taken to Edgerton Hospital, where he died after being hit by a truck driven by Thomas P. Sayre, 72, of Edgerton.
The accident happened at 6 p.m. Wednesday on West County M, two-tenths of a mile west of Second Street near Indianford in Fulton Township, according to a press release from the Rock County Sheriff’s Office.
Preliminary investigation shows that Sayre was driving a 1998 Chevrolet truck west on County M when he saw a pedestrian standing in the westbound lane of traffic less than 15 feet in front of his truck. Sayre was unable to avoid hitting him, according to the release.
Sayer was not injured and deputies found no indications of impairment or alcohol. Speed also was not a factor in the accident, the release said.
Westbound traffic, on County M, was closed and diverted for nearly four hours.
Edgerton police, fire and EMS also assisted at the scene.
