Two thousand people are expected during Winterfest starting Thursday night. V

isit Beloit Director Martha Mitchell says the event begins with the Roy Chapman Andrews distinguished Explorer Award ceremony on the Beloit College campus. Highlights include the Culver's Free Family Carnival from 11am to 3pm Saturday at Christian Church on Milwaukee Road. New this year will be horse drawn sleigh rides at Big Hill Park. Ice skating and swimming are among a long list of activities. Mitchell calls it a great community event, and a good way to beet the Wintertime blues.

The event runs through Sunday.
