— In February, mail carriers who deliver to the Orfordville community will start to work out of the Brodhead Post Office.

The change should be transparent to postal customers, although carriers will take different paths to get to their regular routes, U.S. Postal Service spokeswoman Marge Oehlke said.

Some customers could see changes to their delivery times, Oehlke said.

The changes tentatively are scheduled for the week of Feb. 8. The postal service sometimes moves staff, equipment or other resources between post offices to reduce operating costs or increase efficiency, Oehlke wrote in a statement.

One part-time and one full-time carrier work out of the Orfordville office. One delivers a regular route and the other an auxiliary route, Postmaster Val Nehls said. Both have substitutes, Nehls said.

The changes will affect both routes, Oehlke said.

All permanent employees will remain in postal service roles, although it is not clear where the Orfordville clerk will work after the changes, Oehlke said.

Both post offices will stay open during their regular hours to serve customers. Orfordville customers can continue to pick up packages, get keys for cluster mailboxes and do other business at the Orfordville office, Oehlke wrote.

Clinton postal customers witnessed a similar change earlier this month when Clinton's three rural carriers started delivering mail out of Beloit.

The route changes were necessary because of declining mail processed in the Clinton Post Office, Postmaster Ray Schiltz said.

The Orfordville Post Office, 108 N. Richards St., Orfordville, is open weekdays from 9 to 11 a.m. and 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. The office is open Saturdays from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.

The Brodhead Post Office, 1507 1st Center Ave., Brodhead, is open weekdays from 8:30 to 11 a.m. and noon to 5 p.m. The office is open from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturdays.
