As the nation prepares for the inauguration of President-elect Barack Obama, officials in Beloit are preparing for a speech outlining the economic health of the city.

City Council President Jim Van De Bogart says in his "State of the City" address, he will also highlight local police officers, public works employees and upcoming electronic government initiatives. He says he can't compete with the rhetoric from Washington, but the speech is scheduled for Tuesday because the first meeting in January was too early and the first meeting in February is too late.
