Madison Edgewood High School’s girls basketball team moved into a first-place tie with Monroe in the Badger South by upsetting the Cheesemakers on Friday night.

Becky Gifford scored 18 points and Kenzie Kolb added 13 as the Crusaders upended the Cheesemakers, 49-44, at Monroe.

After rolling past Madison West in a nonconference game earlier in the week, Edgewood has beaten back-to-back state-tournament teams from a year ago.

The defending Division 2 champion Cheesemakers (9-2, 6-1) led by one after three quarters, but the Crusaders (6-1, 11-3) hit seven of nine free throws in the fourth to pull away.

Jamie Armstrong had 16 points to lead Monroe, and Ashley Hermanson added 12.

n Stoughton 50, Fort Atkinson 49—Brianna Bower topped off a 28-point performance by winning basket with three seconds left as the Vikings (2-11, 2-5) edged visiting Fort Atkinson (2-10, 1-6) in a Badger South game.

Bower made of 10 of 11 free throws and all seven in the second half to spark a Stoughton comeback. The Vikings trailed 22-19 at halftime and 41-31 after three quarters.

As Stoughton’s only double-figure scorer, Bower offset Lexi Wiegand’s 20 points and Ralissa Nelson’s 16 for Fort Atkinson. Wiegand made 11 free throws and had three thre-point goals.

n Oregon 51, DeForest 33—The visiting Panthers, behind 19 points from Jenna Kleitsch, pulled away at DeForest a nonconference win.

Oregon (10-3) led by six at half but outscored the Norskies 26-14 in the second half.

Lauren Atkinson added 13 points for the Panthers, while Sehar Resad and Ashleigh Springer had 13 points each to lead the Norskies (6-7).
