The Milton School District is using a new “Robo-call” phone system to alert parents of school closings and emergencies like this week’s school day cancellation caused by extreme cold weather.
District Network Administrator John Holt says the system can call all student homes in the district within 20 minutes. Holt says the voice is not computerized, and can include specific information about the event. He says this will be most useful in events parents aren’t already suspecting, like a snow day. He says the recent bomb scare at the high school was a good example. Students were opening up their backpacks even before they got to the door.
Holt predicts many other area school districts will be using similar systems soon.
