Delavan-Darien High rode the free-throw line to revenge Tuesday night in Southern Lakes girls basketball.
The Comets (10-1, 5-1) made 10 of 12 attempts from the line in overtime as they topped visiting Union Grove, 59-47, to atone for their only loss of the season.
Marissa Moehling’s back-door layup with three seconds left lifted Delavan-Darien into a 45-45 tie to force the overtime.
Karli Collins got a basket and free throw off the opening tip in the overtime to give Delavan-Darien a 48-45 lead. After the Broncos (4-4, 3-2) pulled within 48-47, the Comets went to work at the line with a 9-for-11 effort down the stretch to put the game out of reach.
Alana Cesarz made all four of her attempts to lead Comets’ final surge at the line, Courtney Flood was 3-for-5, and Mallory Epping was 2-for-2.
Flood and Cesarz led Delavan-Darien with 17 and 16 points, respectively. Flood had four of the Comets’ five three-point goals, and Cesarz had eight of the 24 free throws made by Delavan-Darien.
Alyssa Thomas scored 16 points for Union Grove, and Jacqie Servi added 14.

n Elkhorn 43, Fort Atkinson 35—After holding a 25-22 lead at the half, the Blackhawks (2-9) scored just 10 points in a nonconference loss to the Elks (5-5).
The Elks gained a 10-2 advantage in the third quarter for a 32-27 lead they never lost. Lexie Wiegand sank two free throws for Fort’s only offense in the third quarter.
Ashlyn Anderson scored 10 points for Elkhorn and was the only player to reach double figures for either team.
