Beloit park could get new name
BELOIT Merrill Community Center Director, Regina Duncan, says she and the center board are proposing to rename Summit Park after Beloit educator and civic leader Hugo Henry. He died in March of 2008 at the age of 60.
Duncan says the idea will be put to the Parks, Recreation and Conservation Advisory Commission Wednesday night.
Duncan says the Henry family remains very active in the community. She says Hugo's daughter, Tiffany, works for the office of Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin. Hugo Henry was one of Beloit's first black teachers and also served on the Beloit city council.
After tonight's meeting, the proposal also goes before the Plan Commission and City Council before any changes are made.
