Ban on campaign fundraising during state budget proposed
State Assembly Speaker Mike Sheridan of Janesville wants to ban campaign fundraising during the state budget process.
Sheridan says lawmakers need to stay focused on the state budget and its projected more than $5 billion deficit. The Democrat says the new rule will be introduced as a policy change motion at a session of the Assembly Organization Committee. He calls this a step toward campaign finance reform. He says it may reduce a perception of pay for play.
He also expects the budget process to move more quickly without the distractions of campaign fund raising.
