WCLO's Stan Stricker reports on Cub Foods closing

RSS

A well known Beloit grocery store is closing.

Beloit City Manager Larry Arft says he's shocked by the closing announcement from Cub Foods. Arft says the store still seemed popular, with plenty of customers whenever he shopped there. The closing will have an impact on the community. He says it's very near the downtown and acts as a retail anchor. Arft says the city will do what it can to keep Cub Foods open, and a dialog is underway, but he also doesn't want to provide any false hopes. He reassures shoppers the community still has a good selection of grocery stores. Cub officials blame the a difficult economy.

The store plans to close in mid March.
