— Toxicology tests show the driver in a Nov. 28 fatal crash had a blood-alcohol concentration of more than three times the legal limit, according to reports from the Rock County Sheriff’s Office.

Test results show Debra J. Anderson, 47, Orfordville, had a blood alcohol concentration of 0.288 when she died in a two-vehicle crash at highways 11 and 51 on Janesville’s south side.

Police said Anderson was southbound on Highway 51 when she entered the intersection on a red light and was broadsided by a pickup truck driven by Mark Ryan, 35. Ryan was westbound on Highway 11 and had a green light.

Anderson was pronounced dead at the scene. Anderson’s 9-year-old granddaughter, who was a passenger in Anderson’s vehicle, was treated at Children’s Hospital in Wauwatosa.

Ryan was treated and released from Mercy Hospital, though conditions were unavailable at the time of two passengers in his vehicle, Ryan’s 14-month-old and 4-year-old sons.

Well I do feel bad for Tayia and the Ryan family. And yes I do have skeletons in my closet and I am not casting stones. However I am very angry, hurt and outraged at what happpend to this poor child and the Ryan family. Myself was raised my an alcholic/drug addicted at times mother and I know what it feels like to be in that situation.

Spacejam: To tell you the truth, not really. I did a glance through your comments just now, but all I recollect is that you made some very strange comments on Christmas that I attributed to holiday cheer. But I also found a spot where you insulted members of the new 12&12. People automatically get cast aside by me if they pick on those in recovery. By profession, I try to help those with substance use disorders. They are, by far, subjected to more abuse from the public than any other group. So, if I offended you I deeply apologize, but I see RED when someone insults those with substance use disorders.

You said that "I heard that Tayia's mother was in jail and the grandmother was her primary care giver." and you also said "Every one cast stones at me from the last article when I said she was a drunk and now look at what is published!!" And you want apologies.
Here's an idea. Why don't you start apologizing. You can start with Tayia and her mother and then move on to the respective families. Do you think that this situation or this forum is any place for you to disclose what you heard?
Here's the facts. #1: Yes, Tayia is still in the hospital. She is in pretty critical condition. If God decides to bring her back to her family, she most likely will not be the same. #2: Lisa (Tayia's mom) has been by her side 24/7 since the night it happened. #3: This family is trying to deal with the loss of their mother, their sister, their aunt, their friend. In coping with her death, they (the family) also have to come to turns with how she died and how Tayia ended up in the hospital. And lets not forget that there was a whole other family involved in this tragedy. I don't know what has happened to you in your life that allows you to sit on your high horse and demand apologies because you opened your mouth before you had any facts. Do you feel better because you were right? Are you going to be able to sleep better tonight knowing that you have bad-mouthed and trashed a family that is already dealing with more than anyone should ever have to deal with?
You also said "I feel awful for all the children out there that are born into families like this." What kind of family is that? A "family" who had a family member make a mistake? A "family" that would give everything to be able to change what happened?
Read the guestbook on caringbridge and you'll see that this "family" is very concerned, very loving, very supportive and most importantly, very hopeful that there will be a bright side to this tragedy. So unless you are probably the only person in the entire world that has never made a mistake or had a family member make a mistake, I suggest you keep your comments to yourself. And I will ask God that you never have to deal with something like this.

k_atie_e if what your saying is all true then the system also failed this child, i hope that if nothing else comes from this every parent reading this realizes that every choice they make in life. whether it impacts your child directly at the time , may at some point come back around and have a life altering end result. by no fault of the innocent child, they unfortunately do not get to choose the adults in their life

SarahB - here we go again with the "thoughts and prayers" bit. You must be thinking and praying for others all day. How do you get anything else done?

K_atie_e: I don't recall what was said in the forum that followed the original story. But do you realize that you are trashing this family in your postings tonight? Unfortunately, you are not the only one, as a couple of other postings are getting close to that. I am against drunken driving as much as the next person, but please don't let today's forum turn into a bashing of another family. Tayia is fighting to come back to consciousness and her mother has been at her bedside 24/7. Instead of insults, why don't we send them our thoughts and prayers. What good do insults do?

I would like to correct what I wrote. I heard that Tayia's mother was in jail and the grandmother was her primary care giver. I see she is with Tayia know off of the Care site. And it makes me sick to see her writing I need you mother. I would like to know how the two little boys are doing my thoughts and prayers are still with that family at this time.

I would like appologies!! Every one cast stones at me from the last article when I said she was a drunk and now look at what is published!! I was really hurt by what some of you said to me... I still feel sick to my stomach to know the only person in the family capable to take care of Tayia was her grandmother since the birthmother is in jail....This story is just sickening and I feel awful for all the children out there that are born into families like this.

Illinois just enacted a law that requires a breathalyzer in the car after the first DUI.

No, the saddest part of this is that if you check out that website caringbridge.com this little girl may not ever remember this accident at all. Sounds like she is still in really bad shape. How very very sad.

I really felt bad for her and her family. Kind of hard to feel sorry for someone who is stupid to drive drunk. Usually it seems as the person hit by the drunk driver dies, I am happy for once it was not this way. Hopefully the little girl will make a full recovery. She will remember this for the rest of her life. Thats the really sad part.

People are still going to drive cars while they are intoxicated. That isn't going to change, We can get harsher penalties for people that choose to drink and drive. But, if someone wants to drive after they have been drinking they are going to still find a way to do it. Just like kids not being allowed to smoke or drink they find a way to get the cigarettes and booze. I think there should be a time span in which the penalties are enforced and harsher. If you get a DUI and get your second one 6 months after your first one that penalty should be harsher than if you get your second DUI 30 years after your first one.

About 2 weeks ago State Senate majority leader Russ Decker said that he thinks a third DUI should continue to not be a felony. If it were, it's likely that Ms. Anderson would not have been free to drive, she would be alive today and all the injured would have been unaffected. Sen. Decker controls what bills get voted on in the Senate. I guess we can expect more such stories about drunken drivers with multiple convictions as long as he is majority leader.

Because she had more than three prior convictions, her so-called legal limit was .02. Does anyone on the Gazette Staff ever check the accuracy of its stories? Also, is there any word on whether her child (the granddaughter's mother) knew she had all these convictions for drunk driving before allowing the child to be driven by her grandmother?

I hope the granddaughter and the Ryan family all recover fully.

Does anyone know if this Mark Ryan is a 40-45 year old archer? Is he the same guy who has/had ties to the Janesville Bowmen? If so, it's yet another example of horrible stuff happening to good people. Either way, God bless both families and our prayers are with you all in this time of difficulty.

What a sad sad story. I was hoping to hear more after the original article but I hoped it wasn't this bad.

Our state needs to find a way to keep the re-offenders off the road. I'm not trying to say a first time offender couldn't have done this but the odds aren't as high.

I will never understand why people get obliterated and then drive. Even when I have been highly intoxicated I never once thought I was capable of driving (which is very infrequent by the way). I really hope this little girl makes it out of this with the least amount of problems possible.

Shame on the grandmother! It really is too bad that she isn't around to see what she has caused.

She also was sentenced on 02-22-2008 for her 4th DWI to have no DL for 34 months and ignition interlock. Was she driving her own vehicle in this accident or did she borrow someone else's? How was the ignition interlock bypassed if it was her vehicle?

I hope her granddaughter and the Ryan's are healing.
