Bluebirds fly past Purple Knights

JANESVILLE — The Janesville Bluebirds romped to a 9-2 victory over Beloit Memorial for a season sweep in Big Eight Conference hockey at the Janesville Ice Skating Center on Saturday.

The Bluebirds improve to 5-1 in the Big Eight and 6-1 overall.

Janesville defeated the Purple Knights, 5-2, in their first meeting.

“The thing about a season is to make changes and continue to improve,” Bluebirds’ coach John Mauermann said.

The Bluebirds hit the Knights hard in the first period. Logan Lemirande scored twice, while Ross Mauermann, Zach Bayreuther and Joey Allen scored to give Janesville a 5-0 lead.

Michael Valentine, Derek Mussy, Aaron Jacobson and Mauermann completed the scoring for Janesville in the second period.

The Bluebirds will host league-leading Middleton on Tuesday night.
