Craig wrestlers squeeze past Middleton
MIDDLETON Janesville Craig and Middleton couldn’t have been any more equal in their Big Eight dual wrestling meet Thursday night.
Each team won seven matches and each team scored five pins.
Craig High escaped with a 37-36 victory to go 6-1 in the conference.
“We’re bottom heavy and they are top heavy, and it showed,” Craig coach Jeff Kaster said. “We wrestled their upper weights tough and just got caught in a couple matches. We also lost a couple in overtime.”
The Cougars won all seven matches from 103 pounds to 140. The Cardinals won the seven bouts from 145 to 285.
Craig got pins from Kyle Upmann (103), Ben Rolon (112), Jamie Kumlien (125), Chris Simonson (135) and Jesse Davila (140).
Siven Furseth improved to 20-1 with a victory at 119 and Chris Pierce ran his record to 17-2 with a win at 130.
