Craig gymnasts defeat Sun Prairie

SUN PRAIRIE — Three Janesville Craig gymnasts scored individual victories, and the Cougars swept the top four places in the all-around as they scored a 124.3-109.55 Big Eight win over Sun Prairie on Thursday night.

“We were pretty well balanced,” Craig coach Jean Welch said.

But that comment also came with a caveat.

“We were a little rusty tonight. The girls practice over break, but if you don’t have a meet, it doesn’t keep you as sharp.”

It was the first meet for the Cougars (2-1) since mid-December.

Craig got victories from Breanna Green (vault), Nicole Kass (balance beam) and Lauren Moran (floor exercise).

Green scored 31.3 to win the all-around, beating Moran, Kass and Becky Schneider.

The Cougars will be back in action Saturday at the always-tough Westosha Central Invitational.

Floor exercise—1. Moran (JC), 8.45; 2. Green (JC), 8.0; 3. Schneider (JC), 7.75; 4. Kass (JC), 7.6.

All-around—1. Green (JC), 31.3; 2. Moran (JC), 31.05; 3. Kass (JC), 30.9; 4. Schneider (JC), 30.8.

Junior varsity—Craig 90.1, Sun Prairie 68.85.
