WCLO's Steve Benton reports on Thursday's Rock County Criminal Justice Coordinating Council meeting

RSS

— Rock County's Criminal Justice Coordinating Council Thursday discussed a citizen concern about CCAP, a state website that shows the status of current court cases. The alleged victim felt he was discriminated against due to a criminal record. County Criminal Justice System Planner, Elizabeth Pohlman-McQuillen says there was no evidence that prospective employers discriminated against anyone. She was instructed to contact the individuals to make sure they understood state law regarding use of CCAP.

Council member Neil Deupree visited with Beloit officials and told the council, and Pohlman-McQuillen, Beloit wants to take advantage of jail alternatives to reduce the number of inmates they send to the jail. The visit was a follow-up to statistics indicating Beloit sends a high percentage of cases from their Municipal Court system to the county jail. The council hopes they get better participation in jail alternative programs to reduce the jail population.

And the council is seeking information from other counties whether they have a system for sharing information about crisis intervention plans. They want law enforcement agencies to be aware of such information when responding to incidents. Pohlman-McQuillen says she'll be reporting any information she obtains to the council at their meeting next month.
