— The Janesville Bluebirds dominated Madison Memorial in Big Eight Conference hockey action Thursday night at the Janesville Ice Skating Center.

Ross Mauermann scored two goals, and Sean MacDougall, in his first varsity action, added a goal and an assist as Janesville’s co-op high school team shutout the Spartans, 6-0, for a Big Eight Conference victory.

Janesville (5-1, 4-1) limited Memorial to only seven shots on goal as David Jacobson earned the shutout.

“Tonight was a game of opportunities for a couple of our kids, and they responded,” Janesville coach John Mauermann said. “Sean MacDougall did a real nice job for us, and we moved Ryan Shelton from defense to a forward, and he also played well.

“I thought all three lines had good energy. Our power play was effective when we got it going and our defense was solid all three periods.”

MacDougall, a Janesville Craig sophomore, got the Bluebirds on the board at 7:25 of the first and Joe Allen made it 2-0 at 15:23.

Ross Mauermann, the reigning Big Eight Player of the Year, pushed the lead to 4-0 with back-to-back goals to start the second period. Derek Mussey and Logan Lemirande completed the scoring for the Bluebirds.

Janesville hosts Beloit Memorial at 5:30 p.m. Saturday at the Ice Skating Center.

Awesome! Congrats to all of the Bluebirds and Coach Mauermann and his staff. Is it starting to smell like "State Tournament" yet in Janesville?
