UW-Whitewater women win at La Crosse

Tiffany Morton became the eighth player to pass the 1,000-point mark in career scoring for UW-Whitewater women’s basketball as the Warhawks rolled to a 70-61 victory over UW-La Crosse in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play here Wednesday night.

The No. 4 ranked Warhawks (13-1, 4-1) led the Eagles (9-4, 1-3) from the opening tip. Morton, a senior out of Beloit Memorial High School, finished with 18 points and 12 rebounds for her eighth double-double of the season.

Heidi Sonntag added 14 points and Meghan Schmidt chipped in 10 points for Whitewater.

Morton, in her third season as a Warhawk after transferring from UW-Milwaukee, has 1,006 career points. Jody Landish has the school record of 1,377 points from 1991-95.

Whitewater host UW-Eau Claire in a battle for the WIAC lead at 5 p.m. Saturday.
