— Jacquline Quaerna failed to appear before the city's alcohol liquor advisory committee Tuesday, putting into question the future of the liquor license and of Quaerna's Tavern, 214 W. Milwaukee St.

"Quaerna's is closed, and it appears that they have not been operating as a bar for at least 90 days," said Mark Schroeder, chairman of the committee.

In April, the city council denied Michael Quaerna, Jacquline's son, a liquor license after viewing his extensive police record. Jacquline said then that she wanted to retire but keep the business in the family.

After 90 days, it is presumed the owner has abandoned his or her liquor license, Schroeder said.

The committee had asked that Jacquline appear before the committee Tuesday to explain her intentions.

Now, the committee has asked police to serve her with a letter directing her to appear before the committee in February to say if she intends to keep or surrender the license.

Also, A Taste of Rumors, the corporation that holds the liquor license for Fusion 5 Bistro at 307 W. Milwaukee St., surrendered its liquor license Monday, Schroeder said.
