Jefferson High School’s boys basketball team came close to handing East Troy its first Rock Valley North defeat, but the visiting Trojans rallied in the final two minutes to post a 56-53 victory Tuesday night.
The Eagles led until Scott Beckwith made a layup with 20 seconds remaining to give the Trojans their first lead since the second quarter, 54-53.
Jefferson missed a pair of free throws, and Mitch Windle sank two free throws for East Troy for the final margin. Windle finished with 20 points.
Trevor Propst scored 13 of his game-high 24 points in the second quarter to lift Jefferson to a 27-24 halftime lead. The Eagles (3-4, 2-3) took a 43-41 lead into the fourth quarter, but the Trojans (4-3, 4-0) had a 15-10 advantage in the final period quarter to gain the victory and remain in a first-place tie with Evansville.

n Evansville 56, McFarland 38—Evansville’s Jesse Deininger scored eight of his game-high 18 points in the third quarter to help the Blue Devils forge a 42-36 third-quarter lead en route to a key victory at McFarland.
In breaking away from a 24-24 halftime tie, the Blue Devils (6-2, 4-0) remained tied with East Troy for the Rock Valley North lead.
Evansville hit 10 of 17 free throws in a 14-2 fourth quarter that put the game out of reach.
Casey Moseley scored 12 points for Evansville. Lucas Schmitz led McFarland (4-3, 2-2) with 11.

n Parkview 68, Clinton 40—Nick Melton and Alex Mumm combined for 35 points as the Vikings (4-4, 2-2) used an 18-4 third-quarter run to put away the host Cougars (2-5, 1-4) and grab first place in the Rock Valley South.
Melton scored a game-high 19 points, and Mumm added 16. Parkview hit 30 of 48 (62.5 percent) on its two-point field goals.
Justin Gunderson led Clinton with 10 points.

n Turner 66, Palmyra-Eagle 43—Aaron Jones scored eight of his game-high 18 points in the first quarter as the Trojans (4-4, 2-3) used a 36-18 burst during the middle two periods to race past the visiting Panthers (2-6, 0-4) in the Rock Valley South
Palmyra-Eagle also got 12 points from Jordan Conway and 11 from Mike Jacobs. Robb Guthrie led Palmyra-Eagle with 11 points. Chris McMillan added 10.

Ryan Miller made six of eight free throws to lead Brodhead’s fourth-quarter surge and finished with a game-high 19 points. Micah Wallace was 4-for-4 from the line during that stretch, Jacob Cole was 3-for-4, and J.J. Panoske was 2-for-2.
Panoske, a 6-8 sophomore, backed up Miller with 18 points. Cole finished with 10, and Alec McGreevy led Big Foot with 12.
