Candidates file papers in area communities

Voters will choose representatives to their municipal boards and school boards on Tuesday, April 7.

Voters in some municipalities will choose mayors and judges. In addition, questions will be on the ballots in some communities.

The filing deadline for candidates was 5 p.m. Tuesday. In some communities, deadlines have been extended for a variety of reasons. Some towns and villages will choose candidates at caucuses.

Here is a list of candidates determined by papers filed Tuesday:

Albany

School board: Incumbent Dave Pluss, N5459 Stephenson Lane, will face challenger Edward Maksym Jr., N5876 Sugar River Parkway. Incumbent Jessica Wienke is not seeking re-election.

Village board: Up for election are trustee seats held by Peggy Boeck, Bert Hefty and Wayne Stemple. Residents can nominate candidates at a caucus scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 12, at Albany Village Hall, 206 N. Water St.

Village president: The seat held by incumbent Larry Hanson is up for election. Residents can nominate candidates at a caucus scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 12, at Albany Village Hall, 206 N. Water St.

City of Beloit

City council: Incumbent Chad Murray is not seeking re-election. Newcomer Heidi Johns, 1961 Meredith Drive, will challenge incumbents Kevin Leavy, 1660 Royce Ave., and Martin Densch, 2790 East Ridge Road, for three seats.

School board: Six people will vie for three seats. One seat is for a two-year term to fill out the position vacated by former member Kim Thompson. Amy Oselio has held the seat since July. The other two seats are for three-year terms.

The two candidates with the most votes will get the three-year terms. The third-place candidate will get the two-year term.

The incumbents are Amy Oselio, 1801 Sherwood Drive, and Pam Charles, 2227 Carnforth Place. Challengers are Jessica Everson, 1313 10th St., Missy Henderson, 1705 Emerson St., Tia Johnson, 1621 Indian Road, and Tim Listenbee, 1532 S. Ridge Road.

Town of Beloit

Turner school board: Incumbents Doug Clark, 1409 E. Williams Drive, and Mindy Brancamp, 2227 E. Huebbe Parkway, will run unopposed.

Brodhead

School board: Incumbents Teresa Earleywine, 17517 Footville-Brodhead Road, and Mike Krupke, N4222 Pandow Drive, have filed for re-election. No challengers filed.

City council: All three incumbents are seeking re-election.

-- Ward 1: Incumbent Ric Genthe, 906 Fourth St., is seeking re-election. No challenger filed.

-- Ward 2: Incumbent John Bernstein, 707 9th St., is seeking re-election. No challenger filed.

-- Ward 3: Incumbent Hubert Vickers, 501 10th St., is seeking re-election. No challenger filed.

Clinton

Village board president: Trustee William Ruston, 202 East St., is challenging incumbent Mary A. Jensen, 506 High St. If Ruston earns the presidency, his trustee seat will be filled by appointment.

Village board: Three incumbents are running for three open seats: Steve Quillen, 133 Eastland Drive; Lois Kroeze, 318 Mill Street; and Ronald Torkilson 608 Milwaukee Road. No challengers filed.

School board: One challenger and two incumbents will compete for two seats. Newcomer Greta Rath, 808 Sue Lane, is running against board President Randy Gracyalny, 140 Milwaukee Road, and Robert McConnell, 12826 E. County X, a member of the facilities committee that studied the district’s space needs prior to the referendum.

Referendum: On Feb. 17, the Clinton School District again will ask voters for $9.63 million for work at all three schools. The majority of the upgrades will take place at the elementary school including replacing the elementary school’s heating, cooling and ventilation system with a geothermal system, expanding some classrooms and adding space to the gym and the school office to improve school safety and security. Plans call for new security equipment at the other schools.

A similar question failed by less than 1 percent in November.

Darien

Village president: Evelyn Etten, 436 Oak Ridge Drive, will challenge incumbent Robert Metzner, 340 W. Beloit St.

Village board: The village will host a primary as eight people—including three incumbents—vie for three seats.

The five challengers are Cheryl Kaufenberg, 209 W. Washington St.; Joel Gauer, 22 Washington St.; Debi Olmstead, 185 Andrea Court; and Helen Burton, 310 N. Cavanaugh Court, Cynthia Holmes, 30 E. Beloit St.

Incumbents seeking re-election are Philip Putman, 425 Jefferson St.; Craig McCue, 39 N. Walworth St.; and Allen Kenyon, 344 W. Beloit St.

Municipal judge: Judge Roger Farnsworth, 523 Danielson Drive, is unopposed.

Delavan

City council:

-- District 1: Incumbent Cindy Finley, 201 W. Washington, faces challenger Mary O’Connor, 406 Betzer Road.

-- District 2 Incumbent Ellen Reddy, 214 N. 3rd St., faces challenger Sam Riggs, 201 N. 8th St.

-- District 3: Incumbent Ryan Schroeder will not run for office. Ron Siedelmann, 516 Alder Ave., faces Scott Woods, 744 Tyrell Ave.

School board: Incumbents Lee Holden, 119 1/2 McDowell St.; Rick Heine, 232 W. Geneva St., and Jefferey Scherer, 1080 Phoenix St., are unchallenged.

Elkhorn

City council:

-- District 1: Incumbent Howie Reynolds, 406 Davis Court, Elkhorn, is seeking re-election.

-- District 2: Incumbent Gary Payson Sr., 1229 Robincrest Lane, Elkhorn, is seeking re-election and will be challenged by newcomer Gerald A. Norton, 1219 MacLean Road, Elkhorn.

-- District 5: Incumbent Charles Van Dyke, 228 W. Second Ave., Elkhorn, is seeking re-election and will be challenged by newcomer Kimberly A. DeHaan, 305 W. Oak Lane, Elkhorn.

Municipal judge: Incumbent Thomas Meyer, 30 S. Church St., Elkhorn, is seeking re-election.

School board: Three seats are available, and incumbents Ray Baur, 211 Randall St., Elkhorn; Barb Fischer, N6221 Tamarack Court, Elkhorn; and Susan Liebsle, N5176 Brookwood Lane, Elkhorn, are seeking re-election. No challengers have filed.

Evansville

School board: Incumbents Sharon Skinner, 424 S. 1st St., and Tina Rossmiller, 413 S. Madison St., filed for re-election for the two open seats. No challengers filed.

City council:

-- District 1: Incumbent Barbara Jacobson, 55 S. Sixth St., is seeking re-election. No challengers filed for the one open seat.

-- District 2: Thomas Cothard, 447 Evans Drive, is seeking re-election. No challengers filed for the one open seat.

-- District 3: Diane Roberts, 145 Countryside Drive., is seeking re-election. No challengers filed for the one open seat.

-- District 4: Incumbent Dennis Wessels, 257 Franklin St., and incumbent Todd Culbertson, 438 Almeron St., are seeking re-election to two open seats.

Fontana

Village president: Incumbent Ron Pollit, 442 Harvard Ave., is not seeking re-election. Village Trustee Arvid “Pete” Petersen, 351 E. Waubun Drive, Fontana, is the only candidate to file.

Village board: Three seats are available. Arvid “Pete” Petersen, an incumbent, is not seeking re-election, but incumbents Merilyce “Micki” O’Connell, 611 Agaming Road, Fontana, and George Joseph Spadoni Jr., 540 Oak St., Fontana, are seeking re-election. They will face challengers Timothy Olson, 856 Trails End Drive, Fontana, and former trustee John Bromfield, 421 Hillcrest Drive.

School board: One seat is available. Incumbent Dave Stout is not seeking re-election. A primary will be held for the three newcomers who filed papers: Leo Bourneuf, 569 Forest Glen Drive, Fontana, Dmitry Pasikhov, 1024 Tarrant Drive, Fontana, and Lis Price, 200 Abbey Springs Drive, Fontana.

Footville

Village president: Incumbent President Gary Selck, 402 Janesville St., was the only candidate nominated for president at a caucus Monday night.

Village board: Six residents were nominated at a caucus Monday night for three trustee positions. Incumbents Bill Case, 229 S. Gilbert St.; Donald Miller, 335 Century Lane; and Larry Clark, 220 N. Gilbert St., will face challengers Aaron Thornton, 219 Century Lane; Charles Hagmann, 332 N. Gilbert St.; and Steve Haberman, 481 Janesville St.

Lake Geneva

City council:

-- District 1: Incumbent Gary Dunham, 1251 Wisconsin St., Lake Geneva, is seeking re-election. Former mayor Sheldon Shepstone, 501 Madison St., Lake Geneva has filed.

-- District 2: Incumbent Mary Jo Fesenmaier, 633 Sue Ann Drive, Lake Geneva, is seeking re-election. Newcomer Ted Horne, 1122 Romin Road, Lake Geneva, has filed along with former alderman M.L. “Mac” McBride, 205 E. South St., Lake Geneva. This race will require a primary.

-- District 3: Incumbent Arleen Krohn, 922 Sage St., Lake Geneva, is seeking re-election.

-- District 4: Incumbent Donald Tolar, 1365 Edgewood Drive, Lake Geneva, is seeking re-election.

Municipal judge: Incumbent Henry Sibbing, 1031 W. Main St., No. 8, Lake Geneva, is seeking re-election. Challengers are Matt Kuehl, 1280 Pheasant Ct., Lake Geneva, and former judge and mayor Ken Schneider, 100 Evelyn Lane, Lake Geneva. This race will require a primary.

Badger High School Board: Two seats are available, and incumbents Patrick Sherman, 724 Sumner St., Genoa City, and John Druszczak, P.O. Box 365, Genoa City, are seeking re-election. No challengers filed.

Lake Geneva Elementary School Board: Two seats are available, and incumbents Bea Dale, 950 Mobile St., Lake Geneva, and Marcie Hollmann, 1566 Orchard Lane, Lake Geneva, are seeking re-election. No challengers filed.

Reek School Board: Two seats are available, and incumbents Peter Borgo, W3736 S. Lake Shore Drive, Lake Geneva, and John Palmer, N1511 Shadow Lane, Fontana, are seeking re-election. No challengers filed.

Traver School Board: Two seats are available, and incumbents Douglas Frederic, W3797 S. Lake Shore Drive, Lake Geneva, and William Leonard, N1399 Westside Road, Lake Geneva, are seeking re-election. No challengers filed.

Woods School Board: One seat is available, and incumbent Thomas Leahy, N2751 Walden Lane, Lake Geneva, is seeking re-election. No challengers filed.

Milton

Municipal judge: Incumbent Kris Koeffler is running unopposed.

Orfordville

Parkview School Board: Three seats are up for election with two candidates. Incumbent Craig Jones, 7247 Newark Road, Beloit, will seek re-election along with newcomer Eric Stelter, 11504 W. Cleophas Road, Beloit. Incumbents Karl Stuvengen and Tom Dodge will not run.

Village president: Incumbent David Olsen, 205 Dickson St., is running unopposed.

Village board: Incumbents Dale Peterson, 403 E. Howe St., and Phil Zuege, 603 E. Rime St., are seeking re-election. Incumbent Chad Cleasby, 602 E. Rime St., did not turn in papers, so the deadline to file nomination papers for anyone interested in running for Cleasby’s seat has been extended to 5 p.m. Friday.

Municipal judge: Incumbent Terry Miller, 406 S. Richards St., has filed for re-election.

Sharon

Village president: Trustee Diana Dykstra, 169 W. School St., is challenging incumbent Chuck Dorn, 188 Rice Street. If Dykstra wins, the rest of her term as trustee will be filled by appointment.

Village board: Five people will run for three seats on the village board. Incumbent Michael Brooke, 126 Pearl St., faces Jolene Ostrander, 219 Walworth St.; Christina Hibble, 173 George St.; Robert W. Carlson, 128 Martin St.; and Jeffrey Vaessen, 169 Baldwin St. Incumbents Raymond Lowrey and Daniel Hering won’t seek re-election.

School board: Two incumbents will run unchallenged for two seats: Daniel J. Romenesko, N 1517 Salt Box Road, and Charles Weeks, 261 Martin St.

Walworth

Village president: Incumbent Todd Watters, 254 Cotton Grass Lane, Walworth, is running unopposed.

Village board: Two candidates are running for three seats. Incumbent Rich Simonson, 546 Winter Drive, Walworth, is not seeking re-election, but incumbents Pat Hubertz, 496 Fox Lane, Walworth, and David Rasmussen, 204 Bonito St., Walworth, are.

Municipal judge: Incumbent John Peterson, 111 Bonito St., Walworth, is running unopposed.

Referendum: To approve paid-on-premises fire and rescue services. The village board Monday will discuss and possibly approve the exact wording of the question.

Big Foot High School Board: One seat is available. Incumbent Susan Pruessing, W6143 Willow Bend Road, Walworth, is seeking re-election. No challengers filed.

Walworth Elementary School Board: Two seats are available, and incumbents Mary Heyer, N1472 Ryer Court, Walworth, and Peg Hubertz, 195 Plafield Court, Walworth, are seeking rel-election. No challengers filed.

Whitewater

City council:

-- District 1: Incumbent Craig Stauffer resigned his position Dec. 15, and the city Tuesday appointed former council member Jim Allen, 215 E. Clay St., Unit 42, Whitewater, to the post. He will serve until someone is elected to the position. Newcomers James E. Olsen, 216 N. Queen St., Whitewater, and David Stone, 303 W. Ann St., Whitewater, will face off for the seat.

-- District 3: Incumbent Roy Nosek, 210 N. Park St., Whitewater, is not seeking re-election and instead is seeking the at-large seat. No candidates filed for District 3.

-- District 5: Incumbent Patrick Singer, 1011 W. Shaw Court, No. 1, Whitewater, is seeking re-election and will face challenger Gregory M. Torres, 1123 Blooming Field Drive, No. 3, Whitewater.

-- Council member at-large: Incumbent Marilyn Kienbaum, 272 S. Wisconsin St., Whitewater, is seeking re-election. She will face a challenge from District 3 council member Roy Nosek.

Municipal judge: Incumbent Richard C. Kelly, 219 S. Pleasant St., Whitewater, is running unopposed.

School board: Two seats are available, and incumbents Thayer Coburn, 156 N. Fremont St., Whitewater, and Daniel McCrea, 963 W. Highland St., Whitewater, are seeking re-election. No challengers filed.

Williams Bay

Village president: Incumbent Donald Weyhrauch, 431 Observatory Place, Williams Bay, is seeking re-election. No challengers filed.

Village board: Three seats are available. Incumbent Richard Chroust, 29 N. Cedar Point Drive, Williams Bay, is seeking re-election and will face challengers George Vlach, 70 N. Walworth Ave., Williams Bay, and Mary Roth, 81 Upper Loch Vista Drive, Williams Bay. Incumbents Maggie Gage, 727 Cedar Point Drive, Williams Bay, and Jim D’Alessandro, 60 Johnson Terrace, Williams Bay, are not seeking re-election.

Municipal judge: Incumbent David Williams, 45 Parkhurst Place, Williams Bay, is seeking re-election. No challengers filed.

School board: One seat is available, and incumbent Kim Travis, 457 W. Geneva St., Williams Bay, is seeking re-election. No challengers filed.
