WCLO's Steve Benton reports more state aid helps lower the tax levy for the Beloit School District.

RSS

— The Wisconsin Taxpayers Alliance is out with a report on property tax changes for 2008/09. The Beloit School District is mentioned as handing local taxpayers the biggest cut in the state.

Administrator of Business Services for the Beloit School District, Cathy Mark, says a change in the state school aid formula resulted in an additional $4 million for Beloit. That results in a levy reduction of 13.9%, the biggest in the state.

Tax payers could receive another cut in taxes in a couple of years when the district pays off debt from a high school renovation. But Mark says the School Board could decide to make additional investments in buildings or maintenance instead.
