Police plan forum on crimes
MILTON "A significant increase" in burglaries and other crimes in and around Milton has prompted police to reach out to the public.
The Milton Police Department will hold a crime prevention and community awareness forum Thursday. The forum is a response to five burglaries in the city in the last week.
"We normally don't have that many burglaries during the course of a year, much less five in a week," Chief Jerry Schuetz said.
Three of the burglaries were at local businesses. The other two were residences. Forced entry was used in a few of the crimes, but buildings were unlocked in other incidents.
Money appears to be the primary target in the majority of the burglaries to businesses, but two rifles were taken in residential burglaries reported last weekend.
The burglaries are in addition to 15 incidents of property theft from unlocked vehicles the department has responded to in the last six weeks.
"It's an anomaly for this community," Schuetz said. "That's why we're taking the proactive steps."
The forum is meant to communicate recent incidents to the public and encourage residents to contact police when any suspicious behavior occurs, Schuetz. Police also want to emphasize preventive strategies from becoming a crime victim, he said.
The forum also will be used to discuss organizational plans to develop neighborhood watch groups.

i agree nana, what is really sad is the fact that cps can be "ivolved" with and family and they are still arrested for posseing herion and delivering herion and yet nothing is done, they are considered "FIT" parents, milton police will figure out who is doing this because there really is only one family in milton so addicted to drugs that would need to steal other peoples belongings!!! just goes to show how messed up the justice system in rock county i sleep better at night knowing that i am not a criminal and i am no junkie and i can say that my mother did not teach me that drugs are normal, and that it is a good thing to be a herion addict at 23 and at 21 with 2 children watching your every move!!! good luck to the milton police department!!!

I sure hope this helps. It doesn't seem like anyone wants to help. When little children tell you what their parents and grandparents are doing and no one listens it is very discouraging. Even when CPS or the police are notified and this still continues. I think it is our job to protect our little ones from this kind of life. Drugs and crime are not the answer. Unfortunately, it is only going to get worse.
