Testing for radon gas is urged by county health officials
Podcast Episode
ROCK COUNTY Spending time inside your house could be bad for your health, especially if you have elevated levels of radon leaking in through the basement.
Tim Banwell, with the Rock County Health Department, says radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer after tobacco. He says you're at a higher risk of being exposed to it in the winter.
Testing for radon isn't expensive. A test kit can be picked up for around $12.00. If you find hazardous levels of radon, you'll want to make some improvements, and that will cost a little more than the kit. Banwell estimates repairs will range between $500.00 to $1,500.00.
January is National Radon Action month.
