The State Department of Transportation is awarding Rock County grant money to aid in the "Zero in Wisconsin" traffic safety campaign.
Sheriff's Lieutenant Gary Groelle says an OWI enforcement grant provides $25,000 for extra enforcement. A second grant provides $15,000 for speed enforcement. Groelle says the grants run from January through September. During those months, especially on weekends and near holidays, extra officers will be on patrol.
Groelle says alcohol, speed and a lack of seat belts are usually involved in fatal traffic crashes.
