The State Department of Transportation is awarding Rock County grant money to aid in the "Zero in Wisconsin" traffic safety campaign.
Sheriff's Lieutenant Gary Groelle says an OWI enforcement grant provides $25,000 for extra enforcement. A second grant provides $15,000 for speed enforcement. Groelle says the grants run from January through September. During those months, especially on weekends and near holidays, extra officers will be on patrol.
Groelle says alcohol, speed and a lack of seat belts are usually involved in fatal traffic crashes.

Once again, there's always money for enforcement, never money for education, for child development, for drug (or alcohol) rehabilitation programs, for health programs, etc. I'm much more worried about the increase in infant mortality in Beloit than I am in OWI, especially as they released the statistics showing that crashes in our state are at a historic low.
